Michelle Yeoh to Lead Stylized Action Film ‘The Surgeon’ From ‘The Resident’ Creator Roshan Sethi and ‘John Wick’ Collaborators, 193 Launching in Cannes

Michelle Yeoh, a recipient of an Oscar award, will be delivering some high-impact action scenes while wearing medical attire for her role as the main character in the freshly announced stylish action movie titled “The Surgeon.

The innovative aspect, envisioned as the pioneer of a series, is set to debut before potential buyers in Cannes under the supervision of Patrick Wachsberger’s company, 193.

The movie titled “The Surgeon” is created by Rohsan Sethi, a physician-turned-filmmaker, continuing the streak of successful action collaborations between Wachsberger and producer Basil Iwankyk. They previously teamed up on “John Wick,” where Iwankyk was the producer and Wachsberger served as the chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group for distribution.

(In this version, I’ve tried to make it simpler by breaking down the information into smaller chunks and using clearer language, while maintaining the original meaning.)

In the movie, Yeoh is cast as a former surgeon who gets kidnapped and compelled to perform an enigmatic operation. Despite being vastly outmatched, her captors seem to have underestimated her deadliest asset: 35 years of surgical expertise. The plot synopsis hints at a thrilling and violent showdown in which she uses her cunning to overpower and annihilate her adversaries in an eye-catching fashion that surpasses anything previously witnessed on screen.

Writer/director Sethi expressed his enthusiasm about introducing something fresh and groundbreaking to the action genre, drawing on his medical background. He believes Michelle, the renowned action star, is an ideal collaborator, as she’ll be employing her skills in an unexpected manner for this movie. Furthermore, he mentioned Thunder Road, 193, and NeoText as the film’s producing teams.

Iwanyk and Erica Lee are working on the project titled “The Surgeon,” in collaboration with Thunder Road, Neotext (led by John Schoenfelder and Russell Ackerman), Lit Entertainment (with Adam Kolbrenner), and Untravelled Worlds. The executive producers for this project are Patrick White and Jay Schuminsky from Lit Entertainment.

Roshin created an exceptionally intricate and enticing character which captivated renowned actress Michelle Yeoh, as Iwanyk stated. I’m eagerly anticipating the results of this partnership. Furthermore, the opportunity to collaborate with Patrick yet again, who played a significant role in launching the ‘John Wick’ and ‘Sicario’ series, is a delight for Thunder Road.

Michelle is an ideal choice for this role, according to Wachsberger. She skillfully combines elegance with strength, adding deep emotion to even the most action-packed scenes. With Michelle taking the lead and Roshan using his unique vision to narrate a story only he can tell, we are creating a compelling franchise that promises to captivate audiences worldwide.”

This version retains the original meaning while using simpler, more natural language for easier comprehension.

In 2021, Sethi was awarded a Film Independent Spirit Award for his initial movie, “7 Days.” Originally a radiation oncologist, he later ventured into filmmaking and utilized his medical background in the CBS series “Code Black.” He then collaborated to create “The Resident,” which had a successful six-season run on Fox.

Besides receiving an Academy Award, Yeoh’s exceptional performance in “Everything Everywhere All At Once” also garnered her a Golden Globe, Film Independent Spirit Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award. She has also been featured in blockbusters like “Wicked,” “A Haunting In Venice,” “Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts,” “Crazy Rich Asians,” and “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2.” Upcoming projects include “Wicked: For Good” and the fourth and fifth installments of the record-breaking “Avatar” series.
