Thunderbolts Crushes Box Office, Surpasses $100 Million

Marvel’s film is still thriving both in the U.S. and globally, consistently leading box office sales and recently achieving a significant landmark.

The most recent Marvel Cinematic Universe film increased its domestic box office earnings by $9 million on Friday, surpassing the $100 million mark in North America. By the end of the weekend, it’s estimated to have earned over $130 million. This represents a roughly 53% decrease from its opening weekend, indicating that the upcoming film “Thunderbolts” is outperforming “Black Widow,” which experienced a 68% drop in February.

*Note: I’m assuming “Thunderbolts” was meant instead of “Black Widow” as the comparison movie.

With each passing day, the box office dominance of “Thunderbolts” remains unchallenged amidst fierce competition. “Sinners,” helmed by the talented director of “Black Panther,” added an additional $6.5 million on Friday and is projected to exceed $200 million domestically this weekend. Meanwhile, “A Minecraft Movie” continues its impressive run in its sixth week, earning another $1.9 million and is poised to surpass the $900 million mark worldwide soon.

As a fan eagerly anticipating the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I’m thrilled about the impressive box office performance of “Thunderbolts.” The superhero saga is gearing up to take action to another level this summer. In July, we’ll witness the beginning of Phase Six with a new movie that will pave the way for the much-awaited “Avengers: Doomsday.” Excitingly, characters from “Thunderbolts” have already been confirmed to reappear in this highly anticipated film.

As more people watch the movie “Thunderbolts”, it increases the chances that the film will turn a profit within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Featuring stars like Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Lewis Pullman, Gerladine Viswanathan, Chris Bauer, Wendell Pierce, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, “Thunderbolts” had a hefty production budget of $180 million, with an additional $100 million expected for marketing expenses. This means that the film still needs to earn more money at the box office to become a hit.

Marvel’s Clever Marketing Plans for Thunderbolts* is Paying Off

Doomsday,” leveraged the excitement surrounding “Doomsday” by hinting that there were connections between the two films, with scenes allegedly filmed for the upcoming “Avengers” movie.

After the movie’s debut weekend, Marvel Studios started promoting it with a fresh title, referring to it as “The New Avengers“. This new moniker aligns with the film’s closing scene. Additionally, the Doomsday-centered post-credit sequence hinted at the introduction of The Fantastic Four in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which sparked excitement among viewers and encouraged them to go to the cinemas.

Thunderbolts* is now playing in theaters worldwide.
