Nintendo to Brick Switch 2 Consoles: Extreme Measures Against Piracy

In an effort to combat potential piracy related to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, the company has revised its User Account Agreement and Privacy Policy significantly.

Nintendo is not hesitant about safeguarding its creative works. Last year, they drew attention when they closed down a number of well-known emulators that allowed users to operate Switch games on their personal computers.

Lately, Nintendo filed a lawsuit against a third-party accessory manufacturer due to their unauthorized release of “preliminary designs” for the Nintendo Switch 2. On the other hand, Nintendo has proposed a fresh approach aimed at preventing piracy on the Switch 2 from spreading further.

According to Stephen Totilo from Game File, starting on May 8th, Nintendo began sending updates to its user agreement. This update includes a provision that allows Nintendo to disable or render inoperable any Switch 2 systems found to bypass, modify, decrypt, defeat, or tamper with their games and services. In simpler terms, Nintendo will be able to “brick” (make inoperable) Switch 2 systems that manipulate their software or services in unauthorized ways.
