Director Justin Kurzel has confirmed his upcoming movie, which is inspired by a true, tragic event, will feature two of today’s most popular actors as the main characters.
Actors Sebastian Stan and Leo Woodall are going to feature in director Kurzel’s movie titled “Burning Rainbow Farm,” which revolves around a lethal police standoff reminiscent of Waco, that occurred in the year 2001. The film is scheduled for release at Cannes by Rocket Science. CAA Media Finance manages the distribution rights for North America.
The film ‘Burning Rainbow Farm’ chronicles the lives of Tom Crosslin and Rollie Rohm, two pioneering cannabis advocates who identified as gay. They established Rainbow Farm in Michigan during the early 1990s, a tranquil haven where cannabis was welcomed. This place was famously recognized by High Times magazine as one of the top stoner travel destinations globally. However, their peaceful utopia drew the attention of local law enforcement, leading to complications. When their child was taken away from them, a confrontation with police escalated, culminating in one of the most significant and dramatic standoffs America has witnessed.
The screenplay, penned by Tommy Murphy (known for “Holding the Man” and “Significant Others”), was inspired by Dean Kuipers’ 2006 book titled “Burning Rainbow Farm: The Tale of a Stoner Utopia That Fell Apart.
Kurzel stated that “‘Burning Rainbow’ is a heartwarming tale of two unique individuals who defy hate, proudly proclaiming ‘This is who we are, and try as you might, you can’t strip us of our identity.'” He expressed his eagerness to bring this endearing and brave duo to life with Sebastian and Leo. Their relationship promises to be an unforgettable one.
The movie is being made by a team consisting of Nicole O’Donohue, Kurzel, and Alexandra Taussig from Thirdborn, along with Adam Shulman from Anonymous Content, Alix Madigan from Mad Dog Films, and Justin Lothrop and Brent Stiefel from Votiv.
Director Justin Kurzel, who showcased “The Order” in Venice last year, disclosed in November that his upcoming project is expected to be “Burning Rainbow Farm.” This follows Lenny Abrahamson, who initially penned an early version of the adaptation. It’s previously been reported that actor Stan was connected with the film, with World of Reel stating that it was he who introduced it to Kurzel.
