Nintendo Switch 2 Confirmed Without Custom Themes

Nintendo has affirmed that the Switch 2 will not incorporate one of the anticipated console’s most desired attributes.

Back on April 2, the Japanese video game company offered a closer glimpse into the upcoming Switch 2, and since then, they’ve been gradually disclosing additional information about the next-generation console.

Nvidia shared additional information concerning their performance, whereas Nintendo has been providing a detailed glimpse into launch games such as Mario Kart: World.

Since the initial release of the Nintendo Switch, fans have repeatedly requested personalized home screen themes. Unfortunately, there’s been no positive update on this feature from the company.

Nintendo confirms Switch 2 doesn’t have custom themes

As per a report by Nintenderos, it’s been confirmed that at the launch of the Switch 2, there will be just two options for the home screen theme: Light and Dark.

It’s not unexpected, given that Nintendo hasn’t hinted at any changes. Consequently, the interface of the upcoming console should resemble the original Switch’s closely, facilitating a smoother transition for children moving to the Switch 2.

It’s possible that Nintendo might introduce personalized themes through a software update following the console’s release in June, though we’ll need to be patient and observe for any updates on this matter.

On June 5, 2025, the general public gets their hands on The Switch 2, and pre-ordering options are now available almost everywhere it’s set to debut.

Due to an enormous amount of demand, both Japan and the U.S. have run out of pre-launch stock for their new-generation consoles, which means that eager buyers may need to be patient and check back later for availability once they hit the market.

Back in January, at CES 2025 – way before Nintendo’s Switch 2 was officially unveiled – I stumbled upon some intriguing accessories from a vendor named Genki. Little did I know, it seems Nintendo had already taken legal action against them for showcasing these accessories prematurely, as per the lawsuit they filed in May.
