In addition to Young Dylan, Celina Smith, Charlie Hunter, Mieko Hillman, and Carl Anthony Payne II were part of the cast. Notably, Payne, who also helmed the Season 5 finale, announced that the show will not be renewed for a sixth season. In his post, he shared, “Don’t miss the season finale of Tyler PERRY’S YOUNG DYLAN this week! In this episode I directed, I managed to execute some really innovative techniques, such as merging three separate scenes into a single, continuous shot. It turned out fantastic. Unfortunately, we didn’t receive another season. All good things eventually come to an end. But I’m excited about what lies ahead and the future possibilities! Thank you to Tyler Perry and everyone at TPS for this opportunity.
Tyler Perry’s Other Shows are Doing Well
Perry additionally served as an executive producer on the television series “Young Dylan.” This was the media conglomerate’s initial venture into exploring Paramount properties aside from BET and BET+. The show focused on the life of Dylan’s family following the arrival of the aspiring hip-hop artist, who moves in with his extended family, causing a significant upheaval in their lives.
Perry’s achievements extend to multiple properties, one of which was swiftly renewed for a second season shortly after the first part of its inaugural season debuted in March. Netflix has announced that this particular production by Perry will make its debut on May 22nd. Similar to the crime drama “Beauty in Black,” it will be split into two segments, with the second segment premiering on August 14th. The upcoming series “She the People” will feature Terri J. Vaughn, who collaborated with Perry on both “Daddy’s Little Girls” and “Meet the Browns.
On BET+, Perry continues to thrive, and starting June 9, a fresh spin-off series entitled “Sistas Divorced” (a follow-up of Perry’s popular show “Sistas”) will make its debut on the streaming platform.
Madea will be Back
Furthermore, the character played by Tyler Perry, who is set to premiere on Netflix on July 11th, has been a staple for over 20 years. In an earlier interview on Good Morning America, he jokingly expressed his exhaustion from portraying this role, referring to it as “this old lady.” Perry humorously commented about the Madea character he’s played in 12 films, saying, “I can’t stand her anymore.
Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan can be streamed on BET+ and Paramount+.
