Final Destination Bloodlines Sets Wild Record With Oldest Person Ever Lit on Fire On Camera

The horror sequel’s opening scene broke a world record for featuring the oldest person ever filmed on fire, as confirmed by directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein during production.

Lipovsky shared that we had many individuals performing fire stunts, setting a new record for the oldest person ever to do so, which was Yvette Ferguson in her silver gown. Ferguson, a 71-year-old retired stunt performer and actor, took on the role of Mrs. Fuller for this scene. Although Bloodlines’ stunt team has contacted Guinness World Records to verify the record-breaking stunt, they are still awaiting confirmation. You can see pictures of this fiery stunt in EW’s first look below.

The tragic demise of Mrs. Fuller is depicted in the opening scene of Final Destination: Bloodlines. This sequence takes place at an upscale, scenic restaurant perched on the 400-foot Skyview Tower. After Brec Bassinger’s character, Iris, experiences a premonition that initiates each film in the series, the restaurant suddenly catches fire. In a chilling instant, Iris foresees the bustling building collapsing into a pile of burned rubble and concrete. Mrs. Fuller is among the victims seen catching fire before the tower crumbles.

When asked about Ferguson’s remarkable stunt, Bassinger reminisced, “I was near where they set her ablaze on set! It was stunning. Everyone cheered… She was thrilled with it all.” Bassinger, famous for her leading role in the DC series ‘Stargirl’, portrays a younger Iris Campbell in the movie’s initial 1960s flashback. Gabrielle Rose takes on the role of the older Iris, who is later unveiled as Stefani Reyes’ grandmother, the film’s primary character, Kaitlyn Santa Juana.

A Fiery World Record Isn’t the Only Thing Broken in the Opening Sequence

Previously, Lipovsky explained that the initial foreshadowing in the upcoming “Bloodlines” film would deviate from the typical pattern seen in previous “Final Destination” movies. He stated, “In this movie, the first premonition occurs in 1969. As is customary for a ‘Final Destination’ film, there are numerous deaths during the premonition, as usually depicted in the opening sequence. However, we then exit the perspective of the person experiencing the vision in the present day. This twist is something new.

For more than a decade, the popular horror franchise has been dormant following the release of “Final Destination 5” in 2011. However, the series is making a comeback with “Bloodlines,” which signifies a new beginning for the horror franchise. Tony Todd will reprise his role as William Bludworth from previous films, and the cast also includes Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Anna Lore, Max Lloyd-Jones, Rya Kihlstedt, Tinpo Lee, and Owen Patrick Joyner.

According to the official summary, Final Destination Bloodlines is “the latest installment in New Line Cinema’s popular horror series, delving once again into the dark origins of Death’s peculiar brand of justice. Disturbed by a repeated, disturbing dream, college student Stefanie embarks on a journey back home to find the individual who could possibly halt the chain of events and safeguard her family from the dreadful fate that seems destined for them all.

Final Destination Bloodlines opens in theaters on May 16.
