The TV series “Peacock’s Poker Face” highlights its renowned weekly guest stars, and the show’s creator already has a clear idea of who he’d prefer to involve if there were a Hypothetical Season 3.

Poker Face” introduces Natasha Lyonne’s character, Charlie Cale, a former gambler known for her extraordinary knack of detecting lies, almost as if it’s supernatural. In trouble with the law, Charlie embarks on a cross-country journey, during which she uncovers unsolved murders (portrayed by different guest stars) that would have gone undetected without someone like her to spot them due to her unique talents.

In a chat with Russ Milheim of TopMob, the producer Tony Tost, responsible for Poker Face Season 2, shared insights on the show and how the fresh set of weekly mysteries in this season differ from those in Season 1.

Although Poker Face hasn’t been renewed for a third season as of now, the showrunner from Season 2, Tony Tost, has shared his ideal choices for guest stars in potential future episodes.

  • TopMob: “We mentioned crazy guest stars. And just, I wanted to ask in a hypothetical Season 3, yeah, what is a dream guest star that you would kill to get on this show?”

For my part, Cissy Spacey, featured on my tee, brings to mind actors like Paul Walter Hauser and Jon Bernthal. There’s an array of intriguing talents to consider… Sam Rockwell and Benicio Del Toro are among them. In truth, anyone with a distinctive viewpoint on acting or life seems a perfect fit for this universe.

“She Discovers the Truth Behind the Things That the Rest of Us Are Kind of Happy to Sail Past.”

  • TopMob: “Charlie has seen a lot of death. In fact, everywhere she goes, someone tends to die. Is the show ever going to tackle the fact that people just tend to drop dead around her all the time?”

Tony Tost’s Thought: It’s uncertain. To be honest, one of the appealing aspects of the series lies in its unpredictability, and it could feel underwhelming if an episode focused solely on Charlie eating three meals and then retiring for the night. However, that concept could also prove entertaining.

In simpler terms, I believe Charlie is able to discern situations quickly due to her keen instincts. For instance, when passing by a nursing home where paramedics were carrying out a deceased person, she casually inquired about the incident and correctly identified it as a heart attack.

As a dedicated fan, I can tell you that while most folks might just shrug off such untruths, she knows better. Suddenly, she begins unraveling the intricate web of deceit. To be honest, death isn’t exactly foreign to her life, but it’s not just about the mortality rate. It’s more about the unique insight she possesses that allows her to uncover truths that the rest of us often overlook or choose to ignore as we sail along in our lives.

How Season 2 of Poker Face Has Evolved From Season 1

Charlie May Try to Settle Down Finally.

  • TopMob: “Now, last question, just, when it comes to Season 2, how would you say that it evolves over Season 1, in regards to just the stories it’s telling, how it’s telling them?”

Tony Tost explains that he didn’t participate in Season 1. However, in Season 2, things really started to click for him as the show seemed to find its footing. It was more like an individual episode narrative, while also incorporating elements of a larger, ongoing storyline at times.

We aim to resolve certain aspects from Season 1 using the Beatrix Hasp storyline, while also delving into Charlie’s character and examining how the show can evolve as we watch Charlie try to settle down again, which is a path she embarks on later in the season.

We’re exploring what makes Charlie unique and what inherent elements the show has to offer, without significantly altering its core. Instead, we’re looking to steer it towards unanticipated avenues.

Poker Face Season 2 Won’t Reveal Much More of Charlie’s Past

“It’s Kind of Left to Your Imagination.”

  • TopMob: “The Season 1 finale finally pulled back the curtain a little bit on Charlie’s past. And that is kind of one thing with her character in this show, is that we don’t know too much about who she is outside of these incidents that we see her solve and work out. How will Season 2 help flesh out more of just who she is as a person and her history?”

Tony Tost: It’s intentionally set up this way. We’re deliberately leaning into the style reminiscent of classic television, offering viewers an entirely fresh experience, a new adventure if you will.

We don’t delve deeply into the lore or origin story, leaving it up to your interpretation. Instead, our focus is on providing a fresh adventure and mystery every week, steering clear of the common trope of exploring past traumas as there are plenty of shows that cover this aspect. Our aim is to offer something unique and distinct from what you might find elsewhere.

We’re actually going to kind of go in this other direction and see what we can do with that.
