Overwatch 2 Director confirms more “monumental” gameplay changes are coming

According to Overwatch 2‘s Director, Aaron Keller, players can anticipate significant updates similar to Stadium and the Perks system in upcoming game updates.

In recent seasons, Overwatch 2 has rolled out numerous significant updates, with even more to come, and as per Keller’s prediction, the year 2026 promises an exciting, action-packed experience for the hero shooter.

In Season 15, we got Perks – unique skills for heroes that become available as the game progresses. Starting from Season 16, players can now also opt to ban certain heroes, and there’s a new game mode called Stadium with its specific adjustments and maps.

As a passionate gamer, I’m super stoked! The developers have got some exciting plans brewing for our beloved Stadium game. They’re aiming to roll out updates in upcoming seasons, packing in new characters, diverse maps, and even fresh game modes like Payload Race. It’s going to be an exhilarating ride!

In the times ahead, you can anticipate encountering additional such innovative features, as per Aaron Keller’s statement, the team appears to be more open to experimenting with daring concepts compared to their previous approach.

Overwatch 2 will be “bonkers” in 2026

During a chat with Twitch streamer Emongg, Aaron Keller shared that the completion of Stadium doesn’t mark the limit of their development team’s aspirations; instead, they are diligently working on additional captivating features.

He expressed that we’ve been greatly influenced by the suggestions from our gamers, and our aim is now to create larger, more impactful features within the game, rather than sticking to a more cautious approach as we have in the past.

Keller disclosed that aspects such as Stadium or characteristics like Perks represent only the initial steps; they have many more ideas up their sleeve.

These elements are significant for the game, but they don’t limit our aspirations or the variety of projects we aim to accomplish. There’s plenty more exciting developments on the horizon, not only for this season and the upcoming Stadium updates, but also for the following seasons of Overwatch.

“Next year is going to be bonkers,” he added.

In Season 17, we’ll introduce Map Voting into the main game, and we have more planned stadium enhancements scheduled for Seasons 19 and onwards.

For the future, it appears that a mobile, Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) adaptation of Overwatch is being worked on based on recent updates.

Moreover, Blizzard’s significant event, BlizzCon, which is known for unveiling new games and updates, is scheduled to come back next year. Consequently, it’s likely that any “remarkable” development the team has been creating will be disclosed during this gathering.
