As a movie enthusiast, I’ve been following the news closely, and here’s my take on it: Yesterday, I, being the President, fired a shot at Tinseltown in a fresh social media post. The proposal? A whopping 100% tariff on any films produced beyond our borders. This move is just another battlefront in my ongoing global conflict, aimed at making America great again by imposing hefty tariffs on imported goods, ultimately shifting the cost to the consumer.
However, contrary to what I may have hoped, this strategy seems to be pushing nations away from the negotiating table and into the arms of other trading partners. As a result, it looks like we’re left high and dry, missing out on potential deals that could benefit our country.
Trump announced via Truth Social that he intends to impose a 100% tariff on foreign-produced films entering the U.S. It’s uncertain whether this includes blockbusters like “Avengers: Endgame” or upcoming movies such as “Avatar 4”, which are filmed overseas, or if it pertains to Indian Bollywood productions shown in America via streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. The method by which these tariffs would be implemented is also uncertain, with questions arising about whether movie ticket prices will rise or if streaming service costs will need to increase to cover the new tax expenses.
The American film industry is rapidly declining due to other countries luring our filmmakers and studios with incentives. This is causing significant damage in places like Hollywood and across the U.S. This trend is not only economically harmful but also poses a national security risk because it’s a strategic move by other nations. It’s more than just an economic shift; it involves messaging and propaganda. To counter this, I am directing the Department of Commerce and the United States Trade Representative to promptly initiate the process of imposing a 100% tax on any films produced abroad that are imported into our country. We aim to revive movie production within America.
