Shower Buddy

In the movie “Horrible Bosses 2,” characters Nick, Kurt, and Dale apparently conceived a product called Shower Buddy. However, one might wonder if this invention is purely fictional or if it’s based on a real-life product. Originally, “Horrible Bosses” presented us with the trio consisting of Nick (Jason Bateman), Kurt (Jason Sudeikis), and Dale (Charlie Day). All three characters were unhappy with their bosses, played by Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, and Jennifer Aniston. At the end of “Horrible Bosses,” despite minor improvements, Nick, Kurt, and Dale remained working at the same jobs as before.

In 2014, a follow-up to the comedy film was launched, titled “Horrible Bosses 2.” In this installment, the trio decides to escape their dreadful jobs and become employers themselves by embarking on an entrepreneurial journey. They conceive a shower head modeled after car washes, which they call the “Shower Buddy.” This invention piques the interest of a major retailer, Bert Hanson (portrayed by Christoph Waltz). Although the Shower Buddy is intended to be a comically absurd yet somewhat practical product to trigger the ensuing chaotic events, it appears as though such a device could realistically exist in everyday life.

No, The Shower Buddy (Or Shower Pal) Isn’t Real

It Would Be A Great Promotional Tool If Horrible Bosses 3 Ever Happens

In Horrible Bosses 2, Bert proposes an investment deal for their invention, the Shower Buddy. However, it’s later revealed that this was part of his underhanded plan to acquire their stock at a low cost. Although he initially plans to rename it the Shower Pal, this idea doesn’t materialize. Despite their company going into bankruptcy in Horrible Bosses 2, they manage to keep running the Shower Buddy business. The Shower Buddy becomes very popular in the movie, but both the Shower Buddy and Shower Pal are fictional products that don’t exist in reality.

The Shower Buddy, as seen in Horrible Bosses 2, seems to have been an innovative concept. Despite not being available in reality at the time, it’s possible that it might become real in the future. The year 2024 marked the movie’s 10-year anniversary, and a collectible Shower Buddy could have made for a fantastic memento. If a 20-year anniversary film is released, the Shower Buddy could potentially be launched then. In another scenario, if a third Horrible Bosses movie ever materializes, selling the Shower Buddy would be a smart (though expensive) marketing strategy.

How The Shower Buddy Works In Horrible Bosses

In the movie “Horrible Bosses 2”, the character Shower Buddy is modeled after those handheld car wash nozzles that spray soap and water. Dale came up with this idea when he thought, “Why isn’t there something like this for personal use?” As Nick explained and Kurt and Dale demonstrated (unintentionally humorously) on a daytime talk show, the Shower Buddy is essentially designed to function as an all-purpose shower aid.

The primary function of Shower Buddy is to provide a time-efficient shower experience by automatically dispensing and mixing bathing products like shampoo, conditioner, and body wash with water for you, reducing the need for manual lathering. Despite the skepticism about its reliability or usefulness, it has managed to gain popularity, as evidenced by its appearance in Horrible Bosses 2. This suggests that it may indeed be offering a valuable service.

Some Movies Have Spawned Real Products

Chocolate Bars, Toys, And Even A Hockey Team

Since the movie “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” came out in 1971, real-life Wonka Bars have appeared on candy store shelves, manufactured by companies like Quaker Oats and Nestlé. However, these milk chocolate Wonka Bars were recalled due to a potential allergy risk since they didn’t clearly label that they contained nuts and almonds. Unfortunately, the sales of Wonka Bars weren’t strong enough, leading to their discontinuation.

The Talkboy, a voice-changing tape player from Home Alone 2, turned out to be a massive hit among toys. Kevin McCallister used this gadget to outwit his opponents in the movie, and it was released as a promotional item alongside the film. It gained immense popularity during the ’90s and remained a top-selling toy until production ceased in 1999.

The world of professional sports has felt the impact of Hollywood as well. After the hit movie “The Mighty Ducks” in 1992, The Walt Disney Company took the leap and established a hockey team called the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in 1993. Although Disney later sold the team in 2005 and it was renamed the Anaheim Ducks for the 2006-2007 season, the story demonstrates that even products like the Shower Buddy from “Horrible Bosses 2” might not reach the same level of success as the Talkboy or the Mighty Ducks, but they shouldn’t be completely discounted.
