Over the May Day weekend, the top spot at the Korean box office was fiercely competed for, with the local crime thriller “Yadang: The Snitch” holding its ground against two big American films. As a result, it managed to stay in the number one position.

Based on data from Kobis, the tracking service of the Korean Film Council, the movie featuring actor Kang Ha-neul from “Squid Game 2”, generated approximately $2.7 million in revenue. This was achieved across 1,421 screens, resulting in 391,181 admissions. The film’s total earnings have now reached $16.2 million, with a grand total of nearly 2.38 million admissions.

In its initial release, the animated movie “Secret Jouju: Magical Harmony” earned approximately $112,620 from a total of 17,188 audience members.

Simultaneously, the popular Japanese animation film “Attack on Titan The Movie: The Last Attack” held the seventh position, earning $133,477. This boosted its overall earnings to more than $6 million and attracted a total of 823,784 admissions.

In the eighth and ninth spots, Neo Sora’s Japanese drama “Happyend” and the children’s title “Chatty Ddoldoli: The Strange Village Adventure” respectively, earned $92,302 and $67,260 at the box office, with 12,801 and 10,077 ticket sales each.

10th position, the long-lasting local movie “The Match” earned an additional $62,589, raising its overall earnings to a staggering $14.4 million from more than 2.13 million tickets sold.

Over the weekend, the Korean box office saw a particularly lively period, with the combined earnings of the top 10 films surpassing $9.2 million. This significant revenue was due to the holiday season and fierce competition between both domestic and international movies.
