Unexpected ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ Reunion in Mammoth Music Video

The 1996 action-vampire film “From Dusk Till Dawn” has recently come together again, but not for a continuation or remake. Instead, director Robert Rodriguez chose to honor a fan’s wish and re-explore the horror world that brought Santánico Pandemonium into our lives. How is this being done? Through a music video that will surely leave you craving more of Rodriguez’s distinctive take on the vampire genre.

The heavy metal band Mammoth’s music video titled “The End” features their leader, Wolfgang Van Halen (son of guitar legend Eddie), in a story where they unwittingly enter a seedy bar that’s not too keen on their music. (Without going into specifics, the bar seems to resemble a certain establishment from the movie ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’, namely the T*tty Twister branch.)

According to Fangoria, the video is inspired by an idea from the band’s guitarist and singer, Wolfgang. When he discovered that Rodriguez was a fan of his band, he reached out to the director of “The Faculty” and “Desperado.” Excitedly, Van Halen expressed his love for “From Dusk Till Dawn,” particularly the bar scene, as it has a rock-band atmosphere. He was thrilled to meet Rodriguez, who appreciated his music – something that amazed Van Halen. They met at Emo’s in Austin, and their friendship blossomed from there.

Initially, I presented an idea. After some creative discussion among us, it was Robert who developed the entire script and gave it credibility beyond what I had envisioned. Here we are today, realizing a collective dream of ours.

As a fan of cinematic brilliance, I find myself eagerly anticipating the chance to once again set foot on the set reminiscent of the iconic film featuring George Clooney, Harvey Keitel, Quentin Tarantino, and Juliette Lewis – “From Dusk Till Dawn.” In the morning? Not my favorite time. But on this set, grumpiness would swiftly give way to excitement as we prepared to emulate the gruesome scene where Tom Savini’s head was rolled across the floor and an arrow pierced his eye. If waking up early is a necessity… it suddenly becomes invigorating! That’s the magic of it all. Each setup promises fun, and when I see the performance footage, the quality is always astounding.

The video is co-written by Wolfgang Van Halen and Robert Rodriguez. It was directed by Rodriguez, along with Greg Nicotero, a renowned figure from “From Dusk Till Dawn” who also worked on “The Walking Dead”. Nicotero shared his experience of being offered the project in an interview with Fangoria: “Robert called me on my birthday and said, ‘I have a fantastic birthday gift for you. We’re going to make a video with Wolfgang Van Halen, and it will be like From Dusk Till Dawn.’ That’s quite a birthday present!

As a cinema enthusiast, I can tell you that “The End” is filled with delightful references to “From Dusk Till Dawn,” and some familiar faces will catch your eye. Slash, Valerie Bertinelli (a talented musician and mother of Wolfgang), Myles Kennedy – these are just a few of the notable cameos. But the one that’s bound to excite fans is none other than Danny Trejo himself, who appears as a tranquil bouncer with some intriguing demands for the band. Don’t forget to scrutinize the creature designs, as they might be hidden Easter Eggs that’ll make you want to rewatch the music video several times.

‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ Delivered a Twist on the Vampire Genre That the 1990s Needed

In 2025, the film “Sinners” isn’t the first to depict vampires in seedy bars; that distinction goes to the 1996 film “From Dusk Till Dawn.” This movie tells the story of a group of criminals and their hostages who find themselves in a depraved hideout near the Mexican border, only to encounter an unexpected danger: bloodthirsty vampires. A daring blend of horror, Quentin Tarantino-style plots (he was the writer), and western elements, “From Dusk Till Dawn” marked George Clooney’s significant entry into Hollywood.
