⚠️ Caution: The subsequent content may reveal significant plot points from the film ‘Havoc’. For those who haven’t had a chance to see the new Tom Hardy movie, I strongly recommend revisiting it with your Netflix account before proceeding. Enjoy!
After years of eager anticipation for Tom Hardy’s “Havoc”, I finally got to see the 2025 Netflix movie when it became available on their streaming platform in April. Let me tell you, it was well worth the wait! Being a huge admirer of director Gareth Evans’ previous works (he’s known for “The Raid” and “The Raid 2”), this action-packed film was high on my must-watch list for this year. And boy, did it deliver an amazing experience!
This film stood out with its plot revolving around a beleaguered policeman attempting to make a change for the better, protecting the son of a prominent real estate magnate wrongfully accused of murder. The exceptional ensemble cast, featuring Timothy Olyphant, Jessie Mei Li, and Quellen Sepulveda in breakout performances, along with some of the most impressive fight sequences I’ve witnessed in years, made it a must-watch. There were gruesome deaths scattered throughout the movie, but one particular scene left my spouse and me in both shock and amusement. To put it simply, it was quite the experience!
Like Gareth Evans’ Other Movies, Havoc Doesn’t Hold Back With The Gnarly Deaths
If you’ve watched movies directed by Gareth Evans, such as “The Raid,” “Merantau,” or “The Apostle,” or his 2018 Netflix film, you’re familiar with the director’s talent for creating and filming exceptional and intensely violent fight sequences, gunfights, and character demises. This same skill is evident in the movie “Havoc“.
Throughout Tom Hardy’s portrayal of Patrick Walker in the film, numerous characters meet their untimely demise in a multitude of grisly manners. Characters are gunned down, stabbed, and even thrown from balconies (the club scene hinted at in the Havoc teaser is truly mesmerizing). The killings in this movie surpass the violence found in the John Wick films, making them seem almost tame by comparison.

But The Scene Where Tom Hardy’s Character Kills The Assassin Had My Wife And Me Howling
The most striking moment that left my wife and me in fits of laughter was when Patrick Walker fired a harpoon gun at Michelle Waterson-Gomez (The Assassin), right through her face. This fight, happening amidst the Triads’ raid on Patrick’s secluded cabin, had me questioning how this largely silent and lethal character would meet her demise. But when it happened, I couldn’t help but marvel at it.
Instead of focusing solely on the spear penetrating her face, consider emphasizing the unusual circumstances surrounding the incident: The spear not only pierced her face, but it also became lodged in the ceiling and remained tethered to the gun through a cable, effectively suspending the assassin mid-air. The ensuing scene of her sliding down and losing her footing was strikingly realistic, graphic, and intense. Our reactions ranged from laughter, to revulsion, to exclamations of shock such as “holy shit!

I Think It Was A Combination Of The Randomness And Sheer Brutality That Made It So Memorable
Reflecting on the incident, there are several factors that make this specific death stand out – and it’s definitely not for the faint-hearted. Unlike other major deaths in the film that occur swiftly, this one is prolonged, gruesome, and undeniably discomforting. Add to that the unexpectedness of it (the scene appears suddenly), as well as the extreme violence with which The Assassin meets his end, and you’ve got a truly unforgettable cinematic moment. Critics have often pointed out this “masterful brutality” when discussing the film’s merits, and indeed, it leaves an impact!
Despite certain aspects that might falter in the movie ‘Havoc’, its intense and graphic death scene certainly delivers, and it’s not alone. In truth, the majority of the kill sequences in this high-octane, two-hour film are executed exceptionally effectively.
