Quinta Brunson, the talented actress and creator of “Abbott Elementary”, isn’t shy about her petite stature. Recently, she hosted “Saturday Night Live” for a second time and chose to deliver her opening monologue in a musical format, serenading the audience with a song celebrating the advantages and happiness that come with being short. Addressing the crowd, Brunson (surrounded by dancers) exclaimed, “Tonight’s for us, shorties!” She also highlighted perks such as getting “tipsy on just one glass of wine” and rocking crop tops as dresses.
In Brunson’s next part of the verse, she highlighted some of Tinseltown’s most accomplished and vertically-challenged stars such as Simone Biles, a 4’8″ Olympian, Tom Holland at 5’7″, and Kendrick Lamar standing tall at 5’5″. Throughout her energetic performance, Brunson was accompanied on stage by Sabrina Carpenter, the singer behind “Short N’ Sweet,” who shared a laugh about their shared short stature. “Does consuming short rib make it feel like eating regular rib? Are short stories merely novels?” she quipped.
Carpenter and Brunson carried on their trend of acknowledging famous individuals by mentioning Jeremy Allen White from “The Bear”, who stands at 5’7″. They concluded the performance by stating that life is simply more enjoyable when you’re petite or small in stature. Despite not participating in the number, Benson Boone, the singer behind “Beautiful Things” and a headline maker following his impressive Coachella debut, will be the musical guest for Brunson’s second SNL episode.
Apart from sharing an “SNL” appearance, Boone and Carpenter were both finalists for the “Best New Artist” category at the 2025 Grammy Awards. However, it was Chappell Roan who took home the trophy in the end.
