One day, Sheila, a kangaroo, managed to break free from her enclosure and ventured far from her usual habitat. Her journey led her to a busy highway in Alabama. The unusual creature created quite a commotion, causing traffic to halt on a significant stretch of the interstate.
Given that kangaroos originate from Australia, spotting one bounding down an Alabama roadway must have taken drivers by surprise.
Two vehicles quickly moved off the road to steer clear of a genuine kangaroo when they understood it was indeed one, and Sheila’s actions led to a part of the highway being temporarily blocked while its owner worked with the police to capture the animal.
It transpired that the kangaroo wasn’t a resident of a zoo, instead, a resident of Alabama had a strong desire to keep a kangaroo as a pet.
Kangaroo causes mayhem on Alabama highway
According to Patrick Starr, who spoke with the Associated Press, Sheila is a delightful companion animal, and on that particular day, she had managed to get out of her enclosure.
Even though Starr’s family manages a petting zoo, they maintain a separate space for her, isolating her from the other animals. Yet, a minor oversight led to quite a commotion.
The officers were puzzled by incoming reports about a kangaroo causing traffic disruptions on the highway, and indeed, that was precisely what they encountered upon their arrival at the spot.
Sheriff Andre Brunson broadcasted the scene following the incident on Facebook, displaying the owner capturing the kangaroo again and the entire street being temporarily closed off.
Amazingly, there’s a kangaroo roaming around Tuskegee, Alabama! It seems like we never know what to expect here,” the Sheriff remarked.
Both Sheila and the drivers from both vehicles emerged unhurt, and the animal, after being tranquilized, could be returned safely to its enclosure.
Although the event led to significant traffic delays, fortunately, no one sustained serious injuries due to the kangaroo’s escape. However, it’s clear that Starr is considering options to enhance security around Sheila’s enclosure to prevent a repeat occurrence.
