Intense

On the May 1st episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, Blake Lively candidly discussed a challenging year in her life while promoting Another Simple Favor. During the conversation with Meyers, Lively hinted at the ongoing legal dispute involving her co-star and director from It Ends With Us, Justin Baldoni. Last December, Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, accusing him of sexual harassment on set. Additionally, she alleged that Baldoni and his team retaliated by launching a negative campaign against her after she spoke out against him.

As Meyers admitted to Blake Lively that he wasn’t completely up-to-date about her intense past year, she playfully quipped that he would surely be in the know if he were the one currently hosting “Weekend Update” – a role I envy for its insight into the latest happenings!

In brief, this year has been an extraordinary mix of incredible triumphs and challenging setbacks, marking some of the most significant moments in my life. I see many women around me holding back, fearful to express themselves. Fear is often intentionally instilled – it’s a tool used to keep us quiet. I understand that not everyone has the chance to speak out. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had that opportunity. It’s the women who have found their voice that have given me strength and supported me in my mission to create a safer world for women and girls. It’s a straightforward truth,” she expressed.

In response to Lively’s lawsuit, Baldoni filed a $400 million defamation suit that additionally involved Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds. He also launched a separate $250 million libel lawsuit against The New York Times, stemming from an article detailing Lively’s accusations and insinuating a smear campaign. In this suit, Baldoni asserted that the publication had solely relied on Lively’s account and presented a biased interpretation of the evidence. To bolster his case against Lively, Baldoni established a website showcasing emails and texts as supporting evidence.

In the much-awaited adaption of Colleen Hoover’s “It Ends With Us”, Blondi shared screen time with Lively. Interestingly, Blondi not only played a role but also directed the movie, while Lively was involved in its production. Prior to its 2024 release, rumors of tension on set started to surface. During promotional interviews for the film, Lively faced criticism for seemingly underplaying the significant themes revolving around domestic violence.

Is ‘Another Simple Favor’ Suffering as a Result of Blake Lively’s Public Scrutiny?

It seems like the ongoing legal situation might be affecting how people view Lively. Judging from social media trends, it appears that support for Lively and Reynolds is decreasing among the audience. This apparent change in sentiment is also noticeable in the reception of Lively’s latest work, “Another Simple Favor“. Directed by Paul Feig, this film features Anna Kendrick and Michele Morrone, and it serves as a sequel to the 2018 movie “A Simple Favor“.

On Rotten Tomatoes, this movie has a 67% fresh certification, mainly due to the positive feedback about the acting chemistry between Kendrick and Lively, which was unexpected given rumors of tension between them off-screen. However, the audience rating dropped significantly to 46%, with some viewers criticizing Lively’s performance. This might be related to the ongoing legal disputes.

The trial between Baldoni and Lively has been scheduled for March 9, 2026. Meanwhile, you can stream Another Simple Favor online via Prime.
