‘The Equalizer’ Canceled After Five Seasons at CBS

CBS has canceled the reboot of “The Equalizer” after five seasons, EbMaster has learned.

The television show starring Queen Latifah, which was the only one left in a precarious position at the broadcaster, has been officially cancelled. Its final episode set to air on May 4 will now also mark its concluding chapter.

Earlier, CBS decided to discontinue the freshman sitcom “Poppa’s House,” as well as both shows, “FBI: International” and “FBI: Most Wanted.” Additionally, a trial run for a possible “Equalizer” spinoff was broadcast on CBS this season, but it seems that project won’t be progressing either.

The decision to end “The Equalizer” isn’t entirely unexpected, given that it was on the brink last season. Being a joint production by CBS Studios and Universal Television might have made it less financially viable for CBS, especially towards the end of its run. With CBS already securing several new drama series for next season, such as another UTV co-production starring Tom Ellis (“FBI” spinoff) and the comedy series “DMV”, along with ordering the spinoffs “Fire Country’s” sequel “Sheriff Country” and “Blue Bloods'” spinoff “Boston Blue”, it seems that “The Equalizer” had less priority.

As a devoted film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the captivating drama “Einstein,” starring Matthew Gray Gubler, has been renewed for the next season. However, just this week, CBS decided to move the show from its original broadcast schedule to the 2026-2027 television season instead.

Previously, CBS has confirmed an extensive list of show renewals. This includes the two-season extension for the comedy series “Ghosts” along with additional seasons for productions such as “Tracker” and “NCIS.

The television show ‘The Equalizer’ is a modern-day adaptation of the 1980s series, featuring Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall, a character who once worked for the CIA and now assists individuals with no other options. The ensemble cast also includes Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira, Laya DeLeon Hayes, and Lorraine Toussaint.”

“‘The Equalizer’ is a fresh take on the 1980s TV series. In this version, Queen Latifah portrays Robyn McCall, a former CIA agent who lends aid to people who have no other resources. The show also stars Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira, Laya DeLeon Hayes, and Lorraine Toussaint.

The TV show was created by Andrew Marlowe and Terri Miller, who adapted it from the original series jointly developed by Richard Lindheim. Joseph C.
