Former Korean Navy SEAL Thanks Donut Operator for Covering $7K Fine in Johnny Somali Punch Saga

A member of South Korea’s special forces has spoken out following YouTube user ‘Donut Operator’ covering the remaining $7,000 fine for attacking well-known troublemaker streamer Johnny Somali.

Johnny Somali is often associated with influential figures who display unacceptable conduct when creating content overseas.

In 2024, Somali found himself embroiled in legal issues in Japan and Israel. Subsequently, he moved to South Korea, where his actions led to an escalating list of criminal charges. His misdeeds included disturbing local businesses, fabricating a deepfake video of a popular Korean streamer depicting her kissing him, and engaging in inappropriate behavior with the Statue of Peace, a monument honoring victims of sexual slavery during World War II by Japanese forces.

In response, a former South Korean Navy SEAL and YouTube personality named Dalgeun Yu pursued an individual identified as Somali and struck him once in the head. Afterward, he was forcibly detained, explaining that his actions were a duty he felt compelled to fulfill as a Korean citizen.

Consequently, Yu faced a fine of approximately 10 million won, equivalent to around $7,000 USD. However, luckily, a kind-hearted individual stepped in to help, sparing him from having to part with all his savings.

On April 30, 2025, Donut Operator, a popular YouTuber, publicly announced that he had covered the remaining $4K of a $7K fine for an individual named Yu. This revelation came after Yu had successfully raised $3K from compassionate viewers through crowdfunding.

The following day, Yu expressed gratitude towards Donut Operator in a post within the YouTube community, disclosing that he had received an extra four penalties in the form of legal sanctions, in addition to his initial fine, for striking Somali.

Yu asserted that Somali is trying to obtain money from him by initiating civil lawsuits, yet he manages to lead a life filled with gratitude due to the kindness shown by others.

In a simpler and more natural way of phrasing: “Yu expressed gratitude to ‘Donut Operator’, saying he appreciated him immensely for his assistance. He’s also in a situation where he has approximately four more penalties for intimidation and stalking. Additionally, they are attempting to extort money from him by filing additional lawsuits. Unfortunately, Somali and Hank currently have no funds.

As a grateful recipient of support after my ordeal in Somalia, I too strive to live my life by helping others. Your kindness has played an essential role in my personal growth, and I express daily gratitude for it. Once more, I extend my heartfelt thanks to Donut Operator, and to all the Koreans who extended a helping hand to me.

In several posts on X, Somali has put forth similar assertions, posting images of what are said to be communications from the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office in Korea and accusing Yu of being a person without courage who allegedly struck him from behind for personal gain, labeling him as a “coward”.

Currently, Somali’s next scheduled court appearance is set for May 16, 2025, following an incident where he arrived late, intoxicated, and sporting a ‘Make America Great Again’ cap during his first hearing in March.
