Whether Knives Out 3 Will Be The Last One Addressed By Rian Johnson

In a recent interview, director Rian Johnson discusses the possibility of more films in the Knives Out series following the success of his 2019 movie and its sequel, Glass Onion (2022). The upcoming film, titled Wake Up Dead Man, will feature detective Benoit Blanc, played by Daniel Craig, alongside an impressive cast including Josh Brolin, Cailee Spaeny, Mila Kunis, Andrew Scott, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Josh O’Connor, Thomas Haden Church, and Glenn Close.

In a recent chat with Collider, Johnson gives a sneak peek into the future of the Knives Out franchise beyond Wake Up Dead Man, suggesting that his stint as Benoit Blanc might not have reached its final chapter if Craig chooses to keep portraying the role. However, he does confirm that following the third movie, he’ll be moving on to a completely new project. Here’s what Johnson had to say:

As long as Daniel Craig continues to be interested in the role and we come up with fresh, thrilling ideas for the franchise, I remain passionate about this genre. Though I’ve written three consecutive mysteries, I don’t feel drained by it. Instead, my next project is a unique story outside the mystery genre. I find the mystery genre intriguing because it incorporates various sub-genres like whodunits, similar to sci-fi. My upcoming film, ‘Wake Up Dead Man,’ will be quite distinct from ‘Glass Onion.’ In fact, it’s like comparing day and night. As we keep exploring different concepts, the process remains exhilarating.

More to come…
