Overwatch 2 Stadium Roadmap Reveals Future Heroes, Maps, And Game Modes Coming In The Next Few Months

Overwatch 2‘s Stadium development plan has been unveiled by Blizzard, not long after the debut of the new game mode. This roadmap outlines upcoming heroes joining the Stadium team, fresh maps and gaming modes for Stadium, along with statistics detailing player interactions within the current mode.

Starting May 20th, the latest hero Freja is joining Stadium’s exclusive lineup as part of this season’s midseason update. This will be followed by Season 17 in June, which introduces Sigma, Junkrat, and Zenyatta to the roster. Initially, the Stadium roster consisted of only 17 heroes, due to the mode’s unique items and powers that allow for custom builds within the game. These features necessitate careful balancing, so Blizzard is gradually incorporating the entire Overwatch roster into the mode. The update will also introduce two new maps, Esperanca and Samoa, as well as the option to save and share custom build designs. Additionally, Season 17 will feature cross-play, a functionality that has been absent since console and PC players don’t intermingle in competitive lobbies.

Starting in August, we have a new lineup for Season 18 featuring Winston, Sojourn, and Brigitte, as well as a fresh game mode called Payload Race. This new mode, Payload Race, is set to introduce two maps: Route 66 and London. Unfortunately, Blizzard hasn’t given us any specifics on how this mode will deviate from standard payload matches. The plan for future updates only goes up to Season 19, promising more maps, heroes, and new items.

In a recent update, Blizzard revealed that Stadium is currently the most frequently played mode in Overwatch 2, outpacing Quick Play and Competitive, the primary modes. This mode was played an impressive 2.3 million times within 7.8 million hours, significantly surpassing the number of matches for Overwatch Classic when it initially launched, which previously held the title for most popular new mode. Additionally, Blizzard disclosed that Lucio is both the hero with the highest victory rate and the lowest selection frequency.
