The official description for Season 3 states:

After the Opera War, the established elite seems to be losing ground, and the Russells are ready to step up and lead society. I, personally, am captivated by Bertha’s ambitious pursuit of a prize that could catapult her family into unthinkable prominence. At the same time, George (Morgan Spector) is taking a massive risk with an idea that could transform the railroad industry – if it doesn’t destroy him first. Meanwhile, across the street, the Brook household is in turmoil as Agnes (Christine Baranski) vehemently resists Ada’s (Cynthia Nixon) new role as mistress of the house. Peggy (Denée Benton) encounters a charming doctor from Newport, but his family isn’t exactly thrilled about her career aspirations. As all of New York hurtles towards the future, their ambition could come at the price of what they value most deeply.
