Shogun Season 2: Confirmed Cast & Shocking Time Jump

In 2024, Shogun was a highly praised television show, so here’s what we currently know about its upcoming sequel series.

As a devoted reader and viewer, I’d say that Shōgun, a riveting television series by FX, is an exceptional adaptation from the renowned book penned by James Clavell. Interestingly enough, this masterpiece was inspired by real-life events, albeit with some creative liberties taken along the way.

The narrative revolves around the collision of two distinct societies, with the central plot centered around English mariner John Blackthorne who experienced a sea disaster in Japan during the year 1600. His existence becomes intertwined with the influential samurai, Yoshii Toranaga, in this reimagining.

In February 2024, this series made a remarkable debut with impressive ratings, eventually securing the Primetime Emmy award for exceptional drama and the Golden Globe for top-notch television drama.

When will Shogun Season 2 shoot?

Shōgun Season 2 will commence principal photography in January of 2026.

2024 saw the exciting news of our favorite series getting renewed in May! With whispers about it all around, we fans eagerly anticipated that Seasons 2 and 3 might just be filmed one after the other.

In an interview with Deadline, John Landgraf, FX Chairman, stated that the news about three seasons was not definitively confirmed. He expressed that while they aren’t absolutely sure there will be three seasons, the depth and history of the characters in the series make three seem like the optimal number to fully portray it appropriately.

Last year, a team of writers came together to develop the narrative for the series’ upcoming chapters, featuring significant alterations…

Second season will have a major time-jump

The next season of the Shōgun story will play out 10 years after the events of the first.

In their statement, FX explains that Season 2 carries on the tale, inspired by history, about these two characters from distinct backgrounds whose lives are unavoidably interconnected.

In simpler terms, James Clavell wrote additional stories linked to Shōgun, however, the upcoming TV series isn’t another version of the original, instead it will be “an entirely fresh continuation of the first season.

In other words, elements from the initial book that were left out during Season 1 will find their place in Season 2.

Where will the new episodes shoot?

Season 2 of Shōgun will shoot in Vancouver, which is where Season 1 was also filmed.

Instead of what Hiroyuki Sanada had anticipated, it appears that FX was considering a move to Japan, as Sanada referred to the discussions about relocation.

However, in the recent Landgraf interview, the FX executive mentioned that it’s intricate due to the vastness of the shooting location and the production capabilities, which are somewhat distinct from what they usually have.

We’ve found it challenging to align our capabilities with the grandeur required by the series, given the size of our goals. Regrettably, authentic medieval Japanese castles no longer exist in their original state, and even if they did, filming would not be permitted.

Who is in Shogun Season 2?

So far, two main actors have been confirmed for Shōgun Season 2. Notably, Cosmo Jarvis will reprise his role as John Blackthorne, while Hiroyuki Sanada will once again take on the character of Lord Toranaga.

Sanada is also on executive producer duties, while Jarvis becomes a co-executive producer.

The original series creators, Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, are coming back on board as the show’s main producers since they have recently completed their writing sessions.

We’ll keep this article current with any fresh developments regarding Season 2, such as new cast members.
