Steve Doocy is leaving the Curvy Couch on “Fox & Friends” in favor of a new bend in his career.
Doocy is going to reduce the amount of time he dedicates to the lengthy Fox News Channel morning program, acting as a co-host for three days a week from different locations across the southeast, midwest, and other areas.
As a long-time film aficionado, I’ve been rising at 3:30 and navigating my way to New York City under the cover of night for decades. However, today marks the end of my tenure hosting the show from the comfort of my couch. I’m not hanging up my host badge or bidding adieu to the show. Instead, it’s time for a shift in the scenery.
For viewers of Fox News, this shift is a significant one. Doocy has been a mainstay on the Fox Corporation-owned cable network since its inception in 1996, initially as a weather reporter and later as co-host of “Friends” when it premiered in 1998. As Megan Albano, executive vice president of morning programming and program development at Fox News Media, stated, “For close to three decades, Steve has been a dominant presence on the famous couch with his recognizable smile and humor.” His bond with our audience is unrivaled, and we’re excited about him bringing his distinctive style from the couch to various locations in the heartland of America – places like diners, pickleball courts, and more. This move will finally allow him to avoid the daily commute across the George Washington Bridge at 3:30am.
The change occurs when several veteran TV news anchors, including Chuck Todd, Hoda Kotb, Lester Holt, Norah O’Donnell, Alisyn Camerota, Poppy Harlow, Chris Wallace, and Andrea Mitchell, are leaving or have left their respective networks (NBC News, CBS, CNN, MSNBC). This transition is taking place amid a significant departure of experienced anchors in the TV news industry.
Lately, Doocy functions as a mediator on the show, encouraging his fellow hosts and audience members to avoid extreme opinions and actions. Back in 2018, he stepped in when Kid Rock made derogatory remarks about Joy Behar on air. “Hey, she simply has a different perspective than you,” Doocy said then. “Aren’t you going to apologize for that language?” In recent times, Doocy has shown reservations towards investigating Hunter Biden’s actions and suggested examining legal issues related to President Donald Trump’s behavior instead.
In 2020, Doocy explained to EbMaster about morning TV, ‘I’ve always considered it a gentle time of day, as you’re just starting your day, preferring things to be relaxed.’ However, we’ve found that more energetic segments or those with heightened intensity seem to resonate better. But if we did three to four hours like that, it might tire people out. So, we mix it up a bit – a dash of this and a pinch of that. It’s like a mix of different acts, a variety show.’
