Although Dollhouse didn’t garner as much popularity as Severance, it did maintain a dedicated group of fans who were disappointed when it ended after just two seasons. Despite Severance’s phenomenal success on Apple TV+, leading to a third season renewal, it’s intriguing to consider why a series with a similar premise didn’t gain the same traction.
Severance Had An Extremely Similar Premise to Dollhouse

Like in Severance, Lumon Industries, Dollhouse‘s Rossum Corporation recruited individuals who agreed to erase their memories and have new identities and skills implanted into them. Unlike the office-bound roles of the split personalities in Severance, the Dolls in Dollhouse were often employed for tasks beyond simple office work, such as sex work and espionage, to fulfill various roles as needed.

It remains uncertain how Gemma came to work for Lumon Industries, with various clues sparking fan speculation. However, in the impressive episode “Chikhai Bardo” of Severance Season 2, it becomes evident that Gemma is now a captive against her will. This situation paints a deeply sad picture for both characters, yet there’s hope left as Gemma may still have the opportunity for a happy ending that Priya was denied. Despite the emotionally charged and infuriating finale of Severance Season 2, “Cold Harbor,” Gemma’s storyline continues to unfold.
