Just dropped some hot news, fellow gamers! If you’ve been on the hunt for a classic shoot ’em up action RPG, then you’re in luck! D4 Enterprise has officially brought the EGG Console port of Mirai to the Nintendo Switch platform. You can grab it right now from the Nintendo eShop worldwide, priced at an affordable $6.49. Let’s get gaming!
This game’s foundation is the Japanese PC-8801mkIISR variant of Mirai, introduced back in 1986. In this game, you assume command of a soldier on a mission to save inhabitants trapped within an underwater metropolis. You navigate through the environment, combat monsters, and strategically use your fuel resources wisely to progress.
Incidentally, the very same port was showcased earlier on the original Japanese EGG Console PC website for Windows PCs as far back as November 2020. Additionally, D4 Enterprise has unveiled another version adapted from the 1987 MSX2 edition for the same platform in mid-November 2022.
Below, you’ll discover the official trailer, snapshots, and synopsis for Mirai. Despite being directly imported without any extra translations (manual and narrative descriptions remain in Japanese), an appreciable amount of gameplay already includes English text.

Journey Across the Nebula Seven-Two-O (From the Player’s Guide)
In this action RPG, first released in Japan in 1986, you assume the role of a soldier from an unknown background. Your mission is to traverse six distinct planets governed by a single authority that views humans as their enemies. As you progress through time, you encounter a suit adorned with five brilliant lights, which will alter your destiny forever.
The gameplay consists of two stages per planet: the first stage takes place in the skies, emphasizing shooting mechanics; the second stage occurs underground, focusing on hand-to-hand combat and action-based interactions. Significant locations, like hidden entrances or endpoints of each level, present challenging boss battles. By learning their vulnerabilities, you can engage in exhilarating and nail-biting confrontations.
The game’s difficulty is steep, with aerial combat demanding careful fuel management. Running out of fuel gradually depletes your health, and once it reaches zero, the game ends. Refueling at central bases becomes essential to survive. In stages without refueling options, you must select low-power thrusters to conserve fuel. Mastering fuel conservation is a vital skill for survival. Moreover, certain stages lack shops entirely, necessitating that you stock up on essential items beforehand.
Please note that the game does not include a scene select mode. The main game and gallery screens (*Gallery) are in Japanese, whereas other menu screens and “How to play” screens are in English.
