Another Simple Favor Ending Explained: Which Sisters Survived the Twisted Mafia Wedding?

To put it straightforwardly, one might question whether A Simple Favor truly necessitated a follow-up. In fact, the unexpected twist in Another Simple Favor seems to suggest that its continuation was inevitable from the start. Caution: major spoilers follow!

In the thrilling world of gaming, I stumbled upon a secret livestream by none other than Stephanie that unveiled the shocking ending of A Simple Favor. Emily, played by Blake Lively, was unexpectedly sent to jail. The twist? Her true identity was revealed as Hope McLanden, a woman with a chilling past. She confessed to the cold-blooded murders of her abusive father when she was a child and later, her twin sister Faith as an adult.

In a twist of events reminiscent of a gripping thriller, a criminal serving time in prison… but wait, that’s not how it ends! Instead, seven years pass and the plot resurfaces, bringing back our principal characters to the beautiful island of Capri, where Emily, having been released from jail while appealing her initial sentence, reunites with her partner.

The recently released film chronicles her wedding with Mafia heartthrob Dante (Michele Morrone) in Capri, leaving us puzzled about why Stephanie was even invited. However, it soon becomes clear that the way Another Simple Favor concludes is completely unexpected and will leave fans stunned.

Emily’s triplet Charity is revealed to be alive in Another Simple Favor’s ending

To put it simply, Charity, the triplet of Hope and Faith, who was believed to have passed away at birth in the initial film, was actually kept by their Aunt Linda (Allison Janney). During the wedding, Linda attempted to persuade Charity to assume Emily’s identity, thereby gaining control over the Mafia’s funds.

Upon arriving at Capri, there remains a certain enigma regarding the events unfolding, but Emily and Dante successfully tie the knot without complications. At the evening reception, Dante’s mother Portia (Elena Sofia Ricci), who dislikes Dante marrying an American, unexpectedly introduces Emily to her own mother and aunt. The gathering between these three women is tense, with Linda making it clear that she’ll be keeping a watchful eye over Emily.

That night, I found myself gunned down by an unidentified assailant, a chilling event that left my companion, Stephanie, standing there. Earlier, she’d discovered Sean (Henry Golding) lifeless in his bathroom, a grim discovery made after an evening of overindulgence at dinner. Neither his death nor mine has any known perpetrator so far, with Stephanie being the closest to any leads. The police confine her to her room, but they haven’t officially accused her… not until Emily shows up.

Emily requests a private conversation with Stephanie, noticeably altering her behavior compared to their interactions earlier that day. The playful banter they’re known for is absent, replaced by Emily appearing somber and distressed. When Stephanie suspects this is just one of Emily’s eccentric schemes, Emily makes a startling gesture, self-inflicting a wound on her neck. This act leads to Stephanie’s arrest.

Due to an FBI agent, who was both kind and incapable of stopping Stephanie in Capri, federal authorities are doing their utmost to assist her. A cleaning woman assists Stephanie in evading capture, leading her to meet the agent in the town square, but Emily steps in and ends the life of the cleaning woman. Two men then seize Stephanie, unveiling that Portia had been keeping her captive in a basement all along.

With a truth-inducing serum, Portia discovers that Stephanie didn’t actually murder Dante; instead, she abandons her when her theories regarding crimes become bothersome. Emily steps in to save Stephanie, leaving her bewildered. Here, we uncover the sisters’ hidden secrets, along with Aunt Linda’s genuine motive for being present.

Aunt Linda’s secret makes way for the most unhinged scene yet

It appears that Linda ran into Emily just prior to leaving for Capri, according to Stephanie’s observation. However, CCTV evidence reveals that Linda was actually meeting Charity instead. The story then goes back to the triplets’ birth, where Linda aided Margaret (played by Elizabeth Perkins) in delivering the babies. In a deceitful act, Linda claimed that Charity had perished during the delivery. From thereon, Charity became an accomplice in Linda’s criminal endeavors.

Emily learns nothing about these events until her wedding day. In her room on that day, Charity appears and reveals how she’d always felt destined to rescue her sisters someday. Before the wedding, they have sexual relations. Later on her wedding day, Emily is eliminated. Charity was responsible for both Sean and Dante’s deaths, while Linda intimidated Emily in the interim. With Margaret’s assistance, Stephanie eventually uncovers the truth when she discovers that Charity had been acting erratically, as Margaret had informed Stephanie.

Following their reunion, Stephanie and Emily don’t find a quick resolution to their issues. In an unexpected turn of events, Charity kidnaps Emily’s son, Nicky, using him as leverage to threaten his life during a live broadcast hijack by Stephanie. When they locate them, they find Nicky, Charity, and Linda on a balcony, with Linda pointing a gun at Nicky’s head – a joke about killing Stephanie that Emily had made earlier echoing ominously in the background.

In simpler terms, Linda justifies her retirement fund scheme, trying to convince Charity to harm Stephanie. However, after Nicky is saved, Emily persuades Charity to free Stephanie as well. The situation becomes tense when Linda tells Charity that Emily must die for the plan to succeed. Eager to reunite with her sister, Charity resists, pushing Linda off a cliff instead.

In the current scenario, the last four individuals are still alive. Emily successfully convinces Charity to join forces for a plan that benefits their shared love. On television screens, Emily appears to be re-arrested by the police, but it’s actually Charity who has taken her place. Stephanie comes home with an increased duty of nurturing Nicky, aiming to provide him with a stable and secure upbringing.

A Simple Favor 3 is teased by Portia

But where does this leave Emily? Well, she’s hiding out in Rome, where Portia meets her.

On the rim of the Trevi Fountain, Portia expresses understanding towards Emily’s ordeal, making it clear that she wasn’t the one who caused harm to her son Dante (Michele Morrone). Yet, there’s a condition. Portia considers Emily as part of her family now, and in times when help is needed, families lend a hand to each other.

In a casual manner, Portia passes an envelope to Emily, hinting at another small request. The nature of this favor subtly suggests it’s a task aimed at discrediting someone, though neither the contents of the envelope nor Emily opening it are shown in the scene.
