Meet the New Horsemen: Why Now You See Me 3’s Illusionists Are Unlike Any Before

The movie “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” features its cast revealing their new characters for the upcoming sequel. In this installment, Jesse Eisenberg brings on board three fresh Horsemen for an impressive “heist“. Alongside the original Horsemen, Ariana Greenblatt, Justice Smith, and Dominic Sessa are joining forces to collaborate with them in the story of “Now You See: Now You Don’t“, where they will confront a criminal organization.

In an interview with ScreenRant, the fresh faces in the franchise hinted at the characteristics of the new illusionists. Smith, portraying Charlie, disclosed that his “young” Horseman is a reserved, backstage type, well-versed in magic and favoring strategy over limelight. Sessa, as Bosco, mentioned that his character mirrors Charlie but with more energy, stepping into the limelight as the group’s frontman because he enjoys attention and possesses a knack for magic. Check out their remarks below:

Justice Smith: We go by The Foals, or so I like to call us since they’re like miniature Horsemen. My character’s name is Charlie. He’s more of the quiet, behind-the-scenes type who organizes most of the tricks and ensures everything runs smoothly. He’s not particularly comfortable in the limelight, despite his deep admiration for the Four Horsemen. He knows an incredible amount about magic, which is essentially his entire world.

– “We’re calling ourselves” becomes “I like to call us.” This makes it clear that Justice Smith is speaking for himself rather than implying a group decision.
– “I plan a lot of the tricks, and I make sure everything goes right” is combined into one sentence for clarity and brevity.
– “But I don’t really enjoy being in the spotlight, even though I’m in such reverence of the Four Horsemen” becomes “He’s not particularly comfortable in the limelight.” This simplifies the language and maintains the same meaning.
– “I know every magic fact there is. That’s kind of what magic means to him; it’s his whole life” is rephrased for clarity: “He knows an incredible amount about magic, which is essentially his entire world.” This change makes it clear that Justice Smith’s character knows a lot about magic and that it plays a significant role in his life.

In this scenario, Dominic Sessa has introduced a character named Bosco who serves as the group’s focal point and enjoys being in the limelight. However, Bosco also possesses impressive magical abilities. Interestingly, Bosco shares Charlie’s deep respect for magic and its history, but Bosco is notably more enthusiastic about it.

[Greenblatt’s Comments]

“I see June as a shield and a beacon of hope for our little group. Her ability to harness magic is something that binds us together, making her an essential part of our team.”

– Greenblatt, on playing the role of June.

Ariana Greenblatt: My character goes by the name June, and it’s clear that magic serves as the common thread for this three-person group. I believe that through magic, we have grown incredibly close to one another. Each of us has our individual peculiarities and challenges in life, but magic serves as a unifying force, making us feel most authentic when executing these magical feats.

June’s character revolves around shielding these two individuals, for they are her family, the essence of her existence, everything that matters to her. Sharing magic with her cherished companions is what truly embodies who June is. She is a powerhouse, rarely allowing others to influence her deeply. And should you dare to harm those she cares about, be prepared for unpleasant consequences.

As a cinephile penning my thoughts, I must commend the actress who effortlessly showcases her skill in misdirection. She’s a nimble-fingered pickpocket, and it seems that her diminutive stature may have contributed to this role in an interesting way – something I’ve never had to navigate in my previous acting ventures. Often, I’ve needed to conceal the fact that I am, as director Ruben Fleischer puts it, vertically challenged. However, in this character, her petite size allows her to slip, slide, and maneuver like a serpent, making her way where she needs to be and executing what she must do.

What This Means For Now You See Me 3

The Horsemen-In-Training Are A Small But Mighty Group

Each of the three fresh characters brings something distinct to the mix, yet they could potentially have similar fields of expertise as the initial Four Horsemen. One aspect that makes this interesting is observing how various illusionists handle the same area differently. Dominic Sessa explained in an interview that Bosco does share some characteristics with Eisenberg’s J. Daniel Atlas, which might lead to a “touch of tension between them.

In the intriguing sneak peek of “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t,” I find myself facing an unprecedented test as a critic – the eight magicians are squaring off against the most formidable adversary the series has ever known. Unlike their usual illusions and deceptive tricks, Rosamund Pike’s criminal organization is tangible reality, making it imperative for this talented ensemble to set aside their personal disagreements and unite in their common goal. However, at the heart of it all lies the essence of magic – their unwavering passion for its purity and their commitment to uphold justice.
