PS5 Pro Patch Drops For Returnal, Offers Big Resolution Boost

To celebrate its fourth anniversary, developer Housemarque has upgraded their sci-fi action game Returnal for the PlayStation 5 Pro console. While full details of the update haven’t been disclosed yet, it is confirmed that the game now offers “up to 2.5 times more pixels on PS5 Pro,” resulting in a sharper and clearer visual experience.

Initially launched for PS5 in 2021, Returnal is a unique blend of Groundhog Day’s time loop concept and sci-fi themes, infused with elements of sorrow and remorse. Praised by critics, the game centers on astronaut Selene as she strives to leave an unfriendly alien world, while simultaneously confronting her past spectral presences. Following its debut, Housemarque was incorporated into Sony’s company.

The eerie world of Returnal served as the basis for a graphic novel interpretation, crafted by Housemarque’s storytelling and design departments, based on its intriguing premise. Moreover, a deluxe hardcover art book has been released, offering a glimpse into the creation of its haunting landscapes and terrifying creatures.

Housemarque is currently developing another single-player action game reminiscent of Returnal, titled Saros. This was unveiled during the PlayStation State of Play in February 2025. The protagonist of this game is Arjun Devraj, portrayed by Rahul Kohli, who embarks on a thrilling solo adventure.

Set to debut in 2026 on the PS5, and offering an upgraded version for the PS5 Pro too – Saros lets gamers grow more powerful each time they perish, thanks to its persistent resource management and advancement mechanisms.
