Lindsay Lohan Reveals How Becoming a Mom Transformed Her Role in Freakier Friday Sequel

In any list of top body swap movies, the film “Freaky Friday” is sure to be near the top. Released in 2003 as a fantasy comedy, it starred Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis and became a commercial success. The long-awaited sequel, titled “Freakier Friday,” is set for release on August 8, 2025. Fans of the original film are thrilled about the return of Lohan and Curtis as mother and daughter on screen. Both actresses have openly discussed how their personal bond, fond memories, and experiences as mothers influenced their decision to reprise their roles. For Lindsay Lohan, becoming a mom provided unique insights that helped her portray a mature Anna Coleman more authentically.

In their latest roles, the stars of ‘Freaky Friday,’ Anna and Tess Coleman, have evolved since viewers last saw them as a mother-daughter duo who exchanged bodies via fortune cookies. Now, Anna, portrayed by an Academy Award winner, and Tess, once a child star, have both moved on to more mature roles, particularly as mothers themselves. In the upcoming ‘Freakier Friday,’ Anna is also a mom, similar to many, having put her own dreams aside to raise Harper, played by Julia Butters. During a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Lindsay Lohan described the sequel as a classic tale of family dynamics. She’s particularly thrilled about Anna experiencing the same moments with Harper that Tess once shared with Anna, as she feels a deeper connection to the film’s narrative due to her own journey following the birth of her child in 2023.

The unique connection you share with your child, and that special bond – it’s truly invaluable, and the desire to do what’s best for them always takes priority above all else. Nothing can hinder that. Additionally, I didn’t possess the composure a mother requires when a child is upset. Now, I am fortunate enough to experience that. I am grateful for the moments I can share with my child, similar to the ones Tess shared with Anna.

Lindsay Lohan Manifested Working with Disney Again

In the movie titled “Freakier Friday,” character Anna Coleman will experience the sensation of exchanging bodies with her daughter Harper. Meanwhile, Tess Coleman, Anna’s future stepdaughter Lily Davies (played by Sophia Hammons), and another character will trade places instead. Canadian actor Manny Jacinto takes on the role of Lohan’s character’s fiancé, Eric Davies. Rosalind Chao, Chad Michael Murray, Mark Harmon, Ryan Malgarini, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Lucille Soong will reprise their roles alongside Lohan and Curtis. Joining the cast anew are Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Vanessa Bayer.

Currently, Lohan focuses on roles that align with her family commitments. In her own words from the interview, “If it fits around that, it’s destined to occur. If it doesn’t fit around that, it’s not an option.” The idea of a sequel was initially proposed by Jamie Lee Curtis, and it’s also something Lohan has been visualizing.

It all started during the COVID-19 pandemic when an idea popped up in my mind: working with Netflix on a few movies while also collaborating with Disney again. I held onto this dream, and it eventually became a reality because I truly believed it could happen. I believe that such events are destined to occur. Life is beautiful, and I’m deeply appreciative of these special moments.
