As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but share my thoughts on the prediction that TikTok Live might surpass Twitch in viewership by 2025, as streaming sensation Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel has recently discussed. Here are some intriguing points he brought up:
1. The growing popularity of short-form content: With platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts gaining traction, it’s no wonder that shorter videos are becoming more appealing to a larger audience.
2. The younger demographic appeal: TikTok has proven to be particularly popular among the younger generation, which could contribute to its viewership growth in the future.
3. The integration of interactive features: TikTok’s live streaming platform offers various interactive tools that can help engage viewers and potentially drive up viewership numbers.
4. The potential for cross-promotion: As content creators become more active on multiple platforms, they may choose to promote their streams across different social media sites, which could help boost TikTok Live’s visibility.
Over time, numerous streaming platforms have attempted to dethrone Twitch’s reign. Notably, Facebook Gaming, Mixer, and Caffeine have experienced setbacks, while YouTube and KICK continue their efforts to catch up.
TikTok Live has emerged as an unanticipated competitor in the streaming landscape. This brief video platform has found its place among many streamers’ multistream configurations, leading to a significant increase in viewing hours due to the large number of creators on the platform.
By April 2025, according to data from StreamsCharts, TikTok Live has significantly surpassed Twitch in total viewership. In fact, TikTok Live has seen a 30% increase, amounting to 8.027 billion hours watched, while Twitch stands at just 4.847 billion hours watched.
xQc unsure about TikTok Live overtaking Twitch
Although others might consider those figures evidence of Twitch’s alleged decline, opening the door for another platform to rise – xQc disagrees that TikTok will become the next major streaming service.
He mentioned that the typical viewers spend around 48 seconds on a streamer’s channel and have watched approximately 38 different streams. He acknowledged, ‘This is just the way it is; it’s a unique kind of entity.’
“It is still short-form content, almost like a video. It’s not really streaming.”
xQc responds to the announcement that TikTok surpassed Twitch as the second-most watched streaming platform in terms of hours viewed, by saying that TikTok operates in a unique manner and isn’t attempting to replicate what Twitch is striving for. He points out that the typical watch time for a TikTok video creator is approximately 48 seconds.

According to the statement from Twitch and KICK, it’s been suggested that live streams on TikTok will appear approximately every ten swipes or scrolls, a factor that might potentially inflate the overall count of live streams.
He suggested adding a live streamer every tenth entry into each person’s feed, which is likely already part of their algorithm. This approach, he explained, is similar to giving a bit of extra power to help push something along – much like how YouTube operates.
