Actress Angelina Jolie and musician Ellie Goulding urge their viewers to “Embrace the Wild” with their upcoming environmental documentary series. Titled “Bee: Wild,” this series, which is currently in post-production, will make its world premiere at SXSW London. The show is directed by Rebecca and Josh Tickell.

Josh Tickell praised Ellie Goulding and Angelina Jolie for their humanitarian work, stating that they are both actively contributing to significant causes. Particularly, Ms. Jolie has a special affinity for bees because of her charitable work in Cambodia where local bees play a crucial role for the indigenous community. It’s an honor to have them both participating in this project.”

According to Tickell, pollinators such as bees play a crucial role in preserving biological diversity and ensuring our food sources continue to thrive.

These tiny beings play a crucial part in our lives, serving as a kind of ‘warning signal.’ They reflect the state of our planet. Essentially, they’re alerting us to potential issues. Fortunately, their message is one that we can still decipher if we pay attention, allowing us to address problems before they escalate.

They first pitched a project around bees almost 10 years ago.

It was during a time when early reports of colony collapse began emerging, yet gaining attention proved challenging. We found ourselves disheartened, as the issue appeared crucial. However, when the chance arose to collaborate with our friends at Bee Wild and Re:Wild for this documentary, we seized the moment.

As he pointed out, “things related to the environment can often be frightening or sorrowful,” but he emphasized that science is rapidly advancing our comprehension of nature’s mysteries, which means there’s always a growing emphasis and knowledge on possible solutions.

Tickell emphasized that while we aim to address crises, our ultimate goal is to provide practical solutions that viewers can implement on their own. We strive for positive outcomes, but we want them to stem from a sense of empowerment, knowing they can contribute to the solution by taking tangible actions.

And by taking part in a movement much bigger than one film. 

As a film critic, let me clarify a point about a movie I recently watched: Contrary to what one might assume, the film doesn’t advocate for people to take up beekeeping, at least not universally so. In fact, it seems that in certain urban and rural settings, this could even be counterproductive.

Our project aims to revitalize and strengthen the diversity of wildlife in our local habitats, with an emphasis on cultivating gardens that attract pollinators and selecting foods beneficial for them.
