It’s evident from season 2 of The Last of Us that Ellie has earned a significant status within the town of Jackson. Since the start of the series, Ellie has been the pivotal character in The Last of Us due to her immunity to the cordyceps virus. Although most residents of Jackson are unaware of this, she undeniably stands out amongst the townsfolk. In The Last of Us, Ellie is known for her quick wit, bluntness, and at times, impulsive behavior that sometimes works against her.
Furthermore, it’s revealed that Ellie might not always be truthful. In the third episode of The Last of Us season 2, after Abby killed Joel, Ellie asked the people of Jackson to send 16 individuals to Seattle in search of justice. Despite the intense emotions she was dealing with, Ellie managed to stay calm throughout the episode. However, Gail, the therapist of Jackson, sensed her dishonesty and realized that much of what Ellie said was false. This suspicion proved correct as Ellie and Dina ended up going to Seattle alone at the end of The Last of Us season 2, episode 3.
Gail Proved She Had A Good Read On Ellie During Their First Scene Together In The Last Of Us Season 2
Gail Wants To Learn More About Joel & Ellie’s Relationship
In the initial two episodes of “The Last of Us” season 2, Ellie and Gail do not appear together. Instead, in the debut episode, Gail interacts emotionally with Joel, who asserts that he protected Ellie. In the third episode, it is only in episode 3 that Gail gets to talk with Ellie. Following Joel’s heart-wrenching demise in episode 2, “The Last of Us” season 2, episode 3 advances three months ahead and depicts Ellie being discharged from the hospital before she has a conversation with Gail prior to her departure.
In an attempt to gain permission to leave the hospital, Ellie speaks to Jackson’s therapist as if she’s coping well with Joel’s death, despite her true feelings being far from okay. However, Gail suspects this and probes further into Ellie’s relationship with Joel, but eventually allows her to depart without pressing the issue too much.
Ellie’s Joel Speech Sounded Good, But Gail Knew Ellie Lied To Gain Support
Ellie Wants Revenge Against Abby In The Last Of Us Season 2
In the subsequent part of the show, Gail is there as well when Ellie addresses Jackson’s assembly regarding her issue. Rather than openly stating her desire for retribution against Abby and her band for Joel’s demise, Ellie argues that justice demands a team be sent to Seattle. Despite her compelling arguments, it is evident that she is manipulating the truth to gain their support.
In their prior discussion at the hospital, Gail has become aware that Ellie was not telling the truth during her speech. Later, she openly expresses this to Tommy at a baseball game. As a seasoned therapist, Gail is proficient in interpreting people’s actions. Given that the council decided against sending a group of individuals to Seattle, both Tommy and Gail anticipated Ellie taking independent action. Consequently, it’s reasonable to assume that Gail wasn’t taken aback when she discovered Ellie and Dina had departed for Seattle on their own in episode 3 of season 2 of “The Last of Us.
