Two years following the success of her film “How to Have Sex,” which earned the top honor in Un Certain Regard at Cannes Film Festival, British director, scriptwriter, and camerawoman Molly Manning Walker will return to the festival to lead the jury for that particular section.
Manning Walker will be accompanied by several esteemed film industry professionals during the award ceremony for Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section. These include Louise Courvoisier, a French-Swiss director and screenwriter who showcased her film “Holy Cow” at Cannes last year, Vanja Kaludjercic, the Croatian director of the International Film Festival Rotterdam, Italian filmmaker Roberto Minervini, and Argentinian actor Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, famous for his role in “BPM Beats Per Minute.” All these individuals will present awards in this category that focuses on films by emerging filmmakers.
Manning Walker expressed his joy and pride in a statement, saying, ‘I’m thrilled to be back in Cannes, presiding over the Un Certain Regard Jury.’ This appointment will always hold a dear spot in my memory. Being a part of it significantly impacted my life. I can hardly wait to explore the movies that are at the heart of contemporary cinema.
She expressed, “At this moment, I strongly believe that cinema plays a crucial role in uniting us and fostering emotional connections. It offers us an escape, a chance to marvel, and a means to understand each other better. I’m thrilled to embark on this adventure with the other jury members, as I am confident that it will be an extraordinary voyage into these filmmakers’ creative universes.
The festival has revealed that “Promised Sky,” a film directed by Tunisian director Erige Sehiri, will kick off the Un Certain Regard segment on May 14th.
