Vuelta’s Playtime to Merge Film Constellation and Global Screen to Form Global Constellation

The international sales branch of Vuelta Group, known as Playtime, has fully purchased Film Constellation from Fabien Westerhoff and merged its functions with Global Screen, another international sales company based in Germany that’s also under Playtime. The combined units will now operate as Global Constellation.

The Global Constellation is set to join forces with the Playtime Group, an organization that comprises sales firms such as Playtime, Film Boutique, and Be for Films.

Westerhoff assumes the position of Managing Director within the theatrical film division, merging the strong points of both companies while strategically targeting animation, family-oriented productions, and genre movies in the marketplace.

Ulrike Schroder will serve as the head of the TV division at Vuelta, overseeing the international TV distribution center.

As a cinema enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Global Constellation is deepening its partnership with Vuelta Germany – the German film distribution division of Vuelta, created by the fusion of Squareone and Telepool. This strategic alliance places Global Constellation as the preferred partner for both German and international filmmakers aiming for pan-European collaborations and global reach. According to Vuelta, this partnership positions us as a key player in facilitating such ventures. The initial joint projects will be revealed at the upcoming Cannes Film Market next month.

The movie lineup of Global Constellation features: “Olmo” directed by Fernando Eimbcke and “Welcome Home Baby” by Andreas Prochaska, which debuted in the Panorama section at the 2025 Berlinale; animated films such as “The Last Dinosaur” by Ben Smith, “The Last Whale Singer” by Reza Memari, “The Growcodile” by Joost Van den Bosch and Erik Verkerk, and “Carmen” by Sebastien Laudenbach; the historical epic “The Captive,” directed by Alejandro Amenábar; and the survival horror thriller “Fear Is the Rider” by John Michael McDonagh. Additionally, it includes “Call Me Queen,” a venture into English-language filmmaking for German-French director Emily Atef, and “Paradise” by Academy Award nominee Jeremy Comte.

On the television front, Global Constellation boasts a robust collection of shows, including but not limited to: The true crime miniseries “Murder on the Inca Trail,” produced by Westside Filmproduktion/Constantin Television under Nina Wolfrum’s direction; and the second installment of the popular TV series “Recipes for Love and Murder,” a lighter take on crime, helmed by directors Jozua Malherbe and Karen Jeynes, with Thierry Cassuto producing in collaboration with AMC Networks’ Acorn TV, Multichoice, and Both Worlds Pictures.

New projects will be unveiled at the upcoming Cannes Film Market and before NATPE for TV.

As a passionate cinephile, I’ve always been captivated by the vision that drives a film company like Vuelta. In my perspective, it was clear that to fully realize our ambition, we needed a sales entity firmly rooted in a thriving market niche and backed by a robust TV sales division. The union of Film Constellation’s expertise with Global Screen’s extensive footprint seemed like the perfect match, making strategic sense for us all.

Westerhoff stated: “It’s thrilling to be joining Vuelta at this moment! I look forward to leveraging the team’s widespread distribution and production capabilities. I’m eager to utilize Constellation’s extensive connections with filmmakers to create a daring lineup, blending innovative storytelling with global market appeal. Constellation Global provides comprehensive know-how from the initial planning stage to international sales, collaborating closely with top producers, promising newcomers, and significant distribution partners across all regions.

Schroder stated: “Global Constellation will carry on its established practice as a unified hub for cinema and TV sales worldwide in the revamped system. With the backing of a robust corporate network comprising local production, distribution, and sales – Vuelta – we will offer even more impactful content and expand our influence and impact.

Jerome Levy, head of Vuelta Media, expressed his thoughts: “Global Constellation is a crucial element in our broader plan for Vuelta – to build a bold, cooperative, and unified European film studio. This includes film development, production, distribution, and international sales all under one roof. I’m thrilled about the gifted and imaginative team we’ve assembled.
