As a dedicated gamer who has played The Last of Us Part II since its release in 2020, I can tell you that we, the gamers, have been eagerly awaiting the plot developments seen in HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2. We, being a step ahead of viewers who only know the story through the show, are now sharing our insights with the wider audience. Recently, one of the new cast members for Season 2, Isabela Merced, offered some advice to fans watching the show.
The following narrative may reveal significant plot points from The Last of Us Season 2 up until Episode 3. If you haven’t watched that far, it’s best to halt reading now.
According to Merced (as quoted in Variety), “This experience is meant for you to embrace your emotions as they arise. The creators of the game probably didn’t intend for you to be wiser than the characters, or to judge them based on their self-interest. Instead, they want players to fully feel and understand the frustration and pain that each character experiences.
The anguish stems from the demise of Joel, a beloved character played by Pedro Pascal, who was brutally taken by Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) as retribution for his role in her father’s death. This act has driven Ellie (Bella Ramsey) to seek vengeance against not only Abby but also her associates, placing a heavy burden on Ellie that may lead to their mutual peril. Dina (Merced), who appears deeply affectionate towards Ellie, now finds herself in a precarious situation, as she is compelled to accompany Ellie on this potentially lethal quest for retribution.
Merced remarked, ‘They’re preparing a meal.’ He emphasized that it wasn’t ready just yet and suggested, ‘One doesn’t necessarily need to outshine the content.’
More recently, Ramsey discussed the challenging act of filming a poignant scene from episode 3 involving Joel’s demise. Although Joel is deceased in the current timeline, Pascal continues to contribute to Season 2’s narrative. In the upcoming episode of The Last of Us, we’ll meet Isaac, portrayed by Jeffrey Wright, who also appeared as this character in The Last of Us Part II video game.
On Sunday, May 4th, at 6 PM Pacific Time or 9 PM Eastern Time, you can catch the fourth episode of The Last of Us Season 2 on both HBO and HBO Max.
