Tracker Season 2 Adds Randy to Colter’s Team, But Teddi Replacement Still Missing

Warning: Spoilers for Tracker season 2, episode 18

In the series “Tracker”, character Colter Shaw (played by Justin Hartley) isn’t usually quick to form new partnerships. However, things have shifted as of the latest episode. Over the past few episodes, he’s been collaborating closely with Randy (Chris Lee). The long-awaited change in their relationship finally unfolded in “Tracker” season 2, episode 18. Now, Colter expresses a desire to work with Randy more frequently, yet there are doubts about whether his presence is truly indispensable.

Considering that Bobby is our current tech analyst and the end of season 2 of Tracker saw Teddi (Robin Weigert) temporarily leave due to helping her mother, the role of Velma (Abby McEnany) has become less prominent in the series. Consequently, we need a shift in dynamics for Velma in season 3 of Tracker. Although introducing another character like Teddi is not an option, there are creative ways to develop a fresh narrative for Velma instead.

Tracker Season 2, Episode 18 Officially Brings In Randy As A Member Of Colter’s Team

Randy And Colter Work Together Well In The Field

During the temporary absence of Bobby (Eric Graise) in season 2 of Tracker, his cousin Randy admirably filled the gap, demonstrating his competence and proving to be an excellent stand-in for Colter. As Bobby returned, it seemed as if we were about to bid farewell to Randy, but that wasn’t the case with Tracker season 2, episode 18. Instead, Randy became a permanent addition to Colter’s Tracker team, solidifying his role and proving his worth.

In a similar vein to when Bobby phoned Colter for assistance on a case previously, Randy contacted Colter this time, which served to strengthen their connection as survivalist and hacker. This interaction contributed significantly to the atmosphere of the recent episode. Meanwhile, with Bobby occupied at the workshop attending to other technical matters, this provided an opportunity for Randy to forge a stronger bond with Colter by working alongside him in the field.

By the episode’s conclusion, it wasn’t a shock that Randy, despite being a bit grating at times, made a solid team with Colter. This collaboration is bound to foster growth for Bobby, given that Randy will now be a regular presence in his workshop for mutual engagement.

Colter’s Team Didn’t Really Need Another Tech Analyst, But It Needs Teddi’s Replacement

Velma’s Arc Has Reduced Considerably With Teddi’s Exit

Although it’s enjoyable to switch up the cast of Tracker and bring in a new team member, Tracker doesn’t necessarily require a new tech analyst at this time. Bobby remains a dedicated team member, having returned from a temporary absence due to the loss of a friend, and has been instrumental in assisting Colter with technical matters. Since Bobby has already showcased his character independently in previous scenes, the second season of Tracker hasn’t experienced a significant setback in his development, apart from when he was away.

Instead of Velma experiencing a significant shift following Teddi’s departure, let me rephrase it this way: The show offered an opportunity for viewers to witness a fresh aspect of Velma when she spent more time with the younger Reenie at the beginning of the season. However, as the series progressed, Velma resumed working independently and Reenie established her law firm, causing that dynamic to fade away a few episodes in.

With Teddi absent, Velma lacks a consistent partner in work, which essentially translates to fewer opportunities for regular interaction aimed at her growth. Her job duties have been reduced primarily to sending cases to Colter occasionally, but he often handles them independently or receives them from others like Reenie and Randy. If the team wants to retain Velma, they need to expand her storyline by collaborating with someone directly.

How Tracker Can Replace Teddi

Tracker Can’t Bring In Another Teddi But Can Introduce Someone Different

It’s crucial to introduce Teddi’s replacement thoughtfully in Tracker season 3, rather than simply adding another character. This is because the show requires time to develop the relationship between the newcomer and Velma. Moreover, given that Velma is currently dealing with the aftermath of her separation from her wife, it seems unlikely she would easily move on to a new relationship.

Instead, we should introduce a character who offers something fresh and intriguing for Velma within Reenie’s law firm. Introducing a new personality can infuse excitement into the series, revealing unexplored aspects of characters and injecting vitality into scenes. Since Velma has assisted Reenie in establishing her own practice, it seems logical that Velma would spend more time collaborating with someone who shares her passion for discovering cases that could engage Colter.

In this scenario, Velma might find herself sharing knowledge about the handler lifestyle with someone new. She has the potential to take on mentoring and maternal roles, similar to how she cares for Colter. This suggests that she could continue developing as a character throughout the series instead of fading into insignificance in “Tracker”.
