Oblivion Remastered Players Have Plenty Of Suggestions Bethesda Could Implement

On their official Discord platform, Bethesda Game Studios is soliciting ideas about enhancing Oblivion Remastered, and the fanbase is brimming with proposals.

Experiencing Oblivion Remastered, which graced us on April 22nd, feels like stepping back into my cherished 2006 open-world RPG, now enhanced with breathtaking Unreal Engine 5 visuals and a series of minor yet impactful updates, such as an overhauled user interface and leveling system. While these adjustments freshen up the gameplay experience, it retains its original charm, flaws and all.

Discussions about the charming warts of Oblivion in its remastered version have sparked creative ideas among players on Reddit and Discord. A post on the Elder Scrolls subreddit (as reported by Eurogamer) invites feedback to be sent to Bethesda, resulting in a variety of suggestions. These include practical features like displaying an item’s weight during looting and showing a marker when a dungeon has been cleared on the world map (similar to Skyrim), as well as more interactive elements such as eating food or reading books directly within the game world instead of from the inventory screen. There are numerous other ideas proposed by these enthusiastic players.

One common concern among players revolves around the game’s difficulty system. At the moment, the standard Adept level is relatively easy, but it becomes tough when confronted by numerous enemies. However, raising the difficulty to Expert makes even a simple enemy feel like a formidable boss fight. Players have proposed modifying the difficulty levels, perhaps introducing an intermediate level between Adept and Expert, or providing a difficulty slider for more customized gameplay experiences.

Reddit user plasmaSunflower expressed that the level of challenge in Oblivion Remastered is hard to believe. “Eventually, Adept mode becomes too simple,” they stated, “so I’ve been playing on Expert, and I die eight times in every dungeon while using up around 30 health potions – it’s beyond belief.

Other gamers propose features such as a keyring function or dedicated keys tab to minimize inventory chaos, along with the option to alter a character’s appearance once past the initial game introduction. Following the trend of contemporary open-world games, players are advocating for the ability to summon your horse at any location and improved accessibility features like adjustable subtitle and text font sizes.

It’s yet unclear if any of these proposals will be included in Oblivion Remastered, but it appears that Bethesda is receptive to further modifications, which could offer a glimmer of optimism for players.

Although Oblivion Remastered doesn’t sanction mods (a common request from players), in keeping with Bethesda’s traditional RPG style, enthusiasts have swiftly produced mods for the PC version of the game regardless. Mod developers have already tackled some of the concerns expressed by players, like one that offers more precise difficulty settings and another that incorporates a horse whistle to call it from afar.

In our review of TopMob’s Oblivion Remastered, we described Bethesda’s newest release as a remake that balances nostalgia with novelty, all while keeping the gritty elements that define the original game’s charm. One of the game’s original creators recently responded to Oblivion Remastered in an interview, expressing his view that the term “remaster” doesn’t fully capture what the game represents; instead, he suggested it’s more akin to “Oblivion 2.0.”
