This year, one of Steam’s biggest hits, REPO, was launched in February. However, no significant updates have been made to it so far. Earlier this month, the developers shared what we can anticipate from the first patch, but they’ve recently disclosed that its development will take more time than initially estimated.
The video by Pontus Sundstrom from semiwork studio reveals that the unexpected popularity of the co-op horror game led to an increased workload on the developers, requiring them to handle a lot of unglamorous tasks behind the scenes, which are essential for the game’s continued operation.
We’re putting in our utmost effort to expedite this update for you. Given the unexpectedly large success of REPO, there are quite a few administrative tasks and back-end work that we need to attend to, alongside ensuring the game runs smoothly and is ready for release.
The developers are working tirelessly on the game to such an extent that they barely find time for proper rest, as humorously pointed out by Sundstrom in his comments. He quipped that since the game’s release, their sleep has been limited to just one occasion and they haven’t had a chance to catch up on it since then.
Previously, the team openly acknowledged that they are still gaining knowledge in game development, which impacts how swiftly updates can be rolled out. Given that REPO is merely the second title from Semiwork Studio, following less successful Voidigo, and it’s built using a distinct game engine, this is hardly unexpected.
Hey fellow gamers! I’m excited to share that I’m diving into the process of crafting our very first update for REPO. Since this is new territory for us, it might take a bit longer than usual. We’re on a learning journey here, and we aim to master each step correctly. So, bear with us as we ensure that every lesson we learn adds value to the game you all love!
With each subsequent update, you can expect them to come more swiftly because the developers are set to acquire the essential know-how.
