Could Shimmer Survive? The Last of Us Season 2 Might Change Everything!

If you’ve experienced The Last of Us Part 2, you might find yourself concerned about the outcome of Shimmer, yet there’s a possibility that the horse may encounter a distinct destiny in Season 2.

In the world of “The Last of Us,” there’s always a harsh reality; consider the characters Henry and Sam, or David and the cannibals of Silver Lake. Often, those who survive in this post-apocalyptic landscape may secretly yearn for the peace that the deceased enjoy, as they are liberated from the constant terror and suffering.

The second season hasn’t held back, as Episode 2 portrays one of the game’s most distressing and startling scenes: Joel’s demise at the hands of Abby, a vengeful girl whose father was killed by Joel while he was saving Ellie from a life-threatening operation necessary to save the world.

Following Episode 3, Ellie and Dina journey towards Seattle. Here’s a crucial point: The hardships are not over; they may even intensify. But there’s a glimmer of hope – Shimmer might find tranquil surroundings in the future… [Game spoilers ahead]

Does Shimmer die in The Last of Us?

In The Last of Us Part 2, Shimmer perishes, yet there’s ambiguity regarding whether Ellie’s horse meets a similar fate in Season 2, or indeed if it will die at all.

To be clear, Shimmer doesn’t have much of a history detailed. When they arrive in Jackson, she is given the role to assist Ellie. Later, when Ellie and Dina depart for Seattle, they bring Shimmer along with them.

In the game, an unexpected turn of events unfolds as they journey through the city. By unfortunate chance, they trigger a hidden mine that causes them to tumble. Incredibly, Ellie and Dina manage to escape with minimal harm – but Shimmer suffers severely, her legs shattered by the blast.

Shortly thereafter, a contingent of WLF soldiers appears to face them, and among them is Mike, who fatally shoots Shimmer in the head. However, fear not, as they exact their revenge: later, Dina takes his life by shooting him dead.

or

After a short while, a group of WLF soldiers arrives on the scene to engage them, and one of these soldiers, Mike, ends Shimmer’s life with a bullet to the head. But have no fear, as they retaliate: later, Dina kills him by firing a fatal shot.

or

In quick succession, WLF troops join the fray, and one of their number, Mike, puts an end to Shimmer by shooting her in the head. However, rest assured, they strike back: later, Dina avenges her by taking Mike’s life with a lethal shot.

or

Immediately following, WLF troops appear and engage them, and one of these soldiers (Mike) ends Shimmer’s life with a headshot. But take heart, as they seek justice: later, Dina kills Mike in retaliation.

Each option maintains the original meaning while providing a slightly different phrasing for variety.

How The Last of Us could change Shimmer’s death

In the original version of The Last of Us Part 2, Shimmer’s death is abrupt and hard to bear as a viewer, but here’s a possible explanation why it might not follow the same pattern in case of the upcoming HBO series: unlike a video game, the TV show isn’t interactive.

If we were on a horse and triggered a landmine, it’s extremely unlikely that we’d escape unharmed. This is because games function distinctly from television; characters can withstand much more than they would in actual life, even if the game seems incredibly realistic.

Consider the style of action portrayed in The Last of Us. In its first season, Joel didn’t rely on a variety of weapons stored in his backpack to indiscriminately eliminate those who opposed him, nor did he utilize an explosive bow and arrow to assassinate Abby’s father. Instead, the violence was presented as a grim necessity, with gunfights serving as desperate and risky last resorts.

To put it simply, just like Ellie in Season 2 won’t reach the same level of transformation as in Part 2 (if you haven’t played it, watch some gameplay clips on YouTube to see how she becomes almost superhuman), Shimmer may not be killed under circumstances that seem slightly hard to believe.

Could it possibly be that Shimmer will miraculously survive this ordeal? Perhaps she’ll be safeguarded somewhere dry and secure, far from the drizzle of Seattle, and then she might have a chance to return to Jackson again… wouldn’t that be wonderful?

For the upcoming week, explore the reason behind Ellie’s mysterious act of leaving coffee beans on Joel’s grave and don’t forget to notice the poignant alteration in the title sequence that you might have overlooked.
