As the police drama FBI: International concludes its four-season run on May 20, 2025, CBS and Wolf Entertainment find themselves in need of a plan to keep Tyler Booth (Jay Hayden), the latest addition to the Fly Team, involved somehow. Debuting in Season 4’s seventh episode titled “Keen as a Bean,” Hayden quickly won over fans with his charming demeanor as FBI agent and friend of new Fly Team Leader Wes Mitchell (Jesse Lee Soffer). Throughout the series, he displayed admirable leadership and selfless actions, culminating in his most noteworthy performance to date in the latest episode, “Lone Wolf.
In this episode titled “Lone Wolf,” we find Booth back with the Fly Team after initial rumors of his departure and return to the U.S. turned out to be premature. The story heavily focuses on Booth, and Hayden delivers a remarkable performance under intense pressure, which makes it evident that he is shining like never before as Booth. It would be a strategic move for CBS to deepen Booth’s character and increase his screen time in spinoffs or crossover events by recognizing Hayden’s exceptional talent. If CBS takes the wise decision of listening to the fans of FBI: International, they should elevate Hayden from a guest star to a series regular, allowing him to take the lead with the Fly Team.
Tyler Booth’s Role in Lone Wolf, Explained
In “Dead Dead,” Jay Hayden reappeared and delivered an outstanding performance as Tyler Booth in “Lone Wolf.” In this episode reminiscent of the past, the U.S. Embassy in Georgia was raided by heavily armed attackers, trapping Booth within the building while bullets whizzed dangerously close to him. Booth stepped in to assist his longtime friend Wes when he found himself in trouble, but Wes disregarded Booth’s wise counsel, underscoring Booth’s leadership skills for the team.
Though Wes’ advice was disregarded by Booth, he stood up for his peer in a gripping action sequence where a U.S. recreation center was detonated by terrorists. Demonstrating courage beyond measure, Booth displayed exceptional initiative when under attack within the Embassy. He charged through a horde of armed adversaries and safely herded the bystanders into a nearby sanctuary. In essence, the moniker “Lone Wolf” initially seems to pertain to the sole gunman entering the embassy, but it more fittingly reflects Booth’s fearless onslaught through the enemy’s front line.
In addition to handling the intense physical challenges of the intense shootouts, Hayden shows genuine and sincere emotional vulnerability. Faced with an unimaginable ethical dilemma amid gunfire, Booth finds himself in a situation where he must guide a woman named Natia towards safety. Weighing up whether to save one life or many, making the choice in a split second, Booth astonishingly chooses to lock her out, exposing her to the danger of the terrorists. This decision could potentially alienate viewers from Booth, casting doubt on all the goodwill he has built up over Season 4.
After Smitty rescues Natia from imminent peril, Booth confides in Natia about his choice to separate from her for the safety of the group. Booth expresses himself sincerely and genuinely, stating:
– After Smitty manages to save Natia from an immediate threat, Booth shares with Natia his decision to part ways from her to ensure everyone else’s wellbeing. Booth speaks honestly and openly, saying:
– Following Smitty’s successful attempt at saving Natia’s life from a dire situation, Booth discloses to Natia his plan to detach from her for the sake of the team’s safety. Booth shows deep emotion, expressing himself in an authentic manner, saying:
I wanted to let you know that I delayed shutting the door for as long as possible because I needed to think about others’ comfort too. In the end, I had to make a decision, and that’s what I did. I trust you’ll understand my position. I apologize sincerely if this action caused any additional distress or discomfort.
In this scene, Booth maintains eye contact with Natia as he apologizes, delivering a heartfelt and impactful performance that leaves an impression. Onlooker Wes can’t help but be in awe, suggesting that Booth possesses the commanding presence required to elevate the Fly Team even further. While any actor could have portrayed this temporary character, Hayden stands out with his exceptional ability to convey both strength and sensitivity.
Why Tyler Booth Needs To Stick Around in the ‘FBI’ Universe
In “Lone Wolf,” it seems like CBS and Wolf Entertainment may have intended for Agent Tyler Booth to become a regular character or even the main character in a new FBI spinoff series. This move, if it occurs, would be a smart choice. Considering the Season 4 plot revolving around Agents Raines (Carter Redwood) and Vo (Vinessa Vidotto) competing for a Fly Team promotion, either outcome concerning Booth’s destiny would be a shrewd decision. Unfortunately, with FBI: International Season 4 being canceled, viewers won’t get to see who eventually gets promoted among Raines or Vo.
In this scenario, Booth could potentially step up and assume Wes’s role or even become a joint leader in the future if the FBI series continues. His brave actions during gunfire, managing the embassy attack, and his honest acceptance of his mistakes with Natia show he’s ready for a larger role within the Fly Team. Jay Hayden’s performance as “Lone Wolf” served as a 42-minute audition, demonstrating his versatility, and solidifying his status as a cherished character among fans who are eager to see him spearhead more FBI missions.
As only four episodes are left for FBI: International, CBS and Wolf Entertainment need to devise a strategy to ensure that Tyler Booth continues to be the focus of attention.
FBI: International is available to stream on Peacock & Prime Video.
