According to EbMaster’s confirmation, Martin Scorsese has joined the team of “Homebound” as an executive producer, a film by Indian director Neeraj Ghaywan that was selected for Cannes Un Certain Regard.
The movie is created by the film company, Dharma Productions, which is run by the versatile Karan Johar. It features Ishaan Khatter, known for his role in “The Perfect Couple”, Janhvi Kapoor from “Devara Part 1”, and Vishal Jethwa, who appeared in “Tiger 3”.
In this movie, two companions from a modest North Indian village strive for a policing position that could finally bestow upon them the respect they’ve been lacking. However, as they get nearer to their goal, the increasing pressure jeopardizes the connection binding them.
Homebound” is jointly created by Mélita Toscan du Plantier, who was also involved in producing Ghaywan’s “Masaan,” a film that premiered at Cannes in 2015 and received both the Avenir and Fipresci awards within the Un Certain regard section.

“Homebound” is co-produced by Mélita Toscan du Plantier, who was also behind Ghaywan’s “Masaan,” a film that won Avenir and Fipresci prizes at Cannes in 2015.
Martin Scorsese expressed enthusiasm after watching Neeraj’s debut film, ‘Masaan’, in 2015, and since then, he was intrigued when Mélita Toscan du Plantier approached him with the project for Neeraj’s second movie. He found the narrative captivating, and was eager to assist. Neeraj has skillfully produced a magnificent film that adds considerable value to Indian cinema. Scorsese is pleased that this movie has been chosen as an official selection in Un Certain Regard at Cannes Film Festival this year, as shared by Johar on his Instagram stories.
As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to express my excitement for ‘Homebound’, a cinematic masterpiece that brilliantly showcases the collective genius of its creators. It’s truly a privilege to have Martin Scorsese, a cinematic titan, backing Neeraj’s innovative vision, pushing our production to unparalleled artistic heights.
With an immensely talented cast and the illustrious platform of Cannes Film Festival, we can’t wait to unveil ‘Homebound’s compelling narrative to audiences worldwide. This is more than just a movie; it’s a testament to the power of storytelling at its best.
Martin Scorsese has a history of involvement in Indian cinema, as he founded The Film Foundation’s World Cinema Project and has recently restored Indian classics, such as the 1977 film “Ghatashraddha.” This movie was screened at the Venice Classics event last year.
I’m absolutely amazed! It’s hard to believe that Martin Scorsese, a true legend, has agreed to associate with our film, #Homebound. I am incredibly thankful to Mélita Toscan, our co-producer, for making this connection possible.” (Posted on X)
