it brought the thrill of entering this new world into sharp focus.
The Chronos Replica On Universal’s National Epic Universe Portal Tour Is Only A Scale Model
I was fortunate enough to receive an invitation from Universal Orlando Resort, which allowed me to join the Universal National Epic Universe Portal Tour. In a designated area set aside for media and influential individuals, my companions and I had the opportunity to marvel at a 30-foot tall replica of the entrance portal to the park, as shown in the photo below. Quite a sight to behold!
At the event, I had a chat with some representatives from Universal, and it turns out that the colossal Chronos on display during this roadshow isn’t its full size. Instead, it appears to be a third of its actual dimensions, as I was informed. Given that this is the grand entrance to Universal Epic Universe, it would hardly be feasible to have an entryway of such magnitude for visitors to traverse.
In terms of branding strategies, taking visitors on a tour of your theme park’s entrance model is quite an effective tactic. Reflecting upon the words of the creative team behind Epic Universe, I believe this event takes on an even more breathtaking significance.

Universal Epic Universe’s Portals Are The Heart Of The Park’s Concept
Since Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge debuted at Disney Parks in 2019, theme park experiences have delved deeper into storytelling and immersion. There’s now a greater emphasis on authenticity and attention to detail, particularly in the interactions between cast members and guests. Similarly, the development of Universal Epic Universe has been thoughtfully designed with this level of depth in mind for their upcoming Orlando location.
In October 2024, during the NYCC panel for the amazing new park, several team members provided additional insights on how we should engage with our environment as visitors. During this discussion, Universal Creative’s Senior Show Writer, Patrick Braillard, expressed these thoughts in 2024:
The theme of our park revolves around legendary figures and their tales, but it’s not just about passively observing. Instead, we’re giving you the power to engage in storytelling, quests, and the adventure of exploration. We aim for the park to interact with you as you interact with it. Furthermore, the Cosmic Chronos is harnessing cosmic energy, which enables us to create portals to various worlds within this Epic Universe.
The Chronos isn’t merely an eye-catching entrance or a fashionable accessory for a souvenir bag – it serves as the core essence that brings the park’s stories to vibrant reality. This further enhances the enchanting lore surrounding the Helios Grand Hotel, as you’ll have a constant window into captivating light spectacles.
The energy from the Chronos can be trapped when its portal is closed, but it must find another place to go, wouldn’t you agree? Comparing a theme park like Universal Orlando Resort to such a concept is one reason I enjoy visiting new places so much; and this scaled-down portal exploration served as an effective reminder of this connection.
During my time there, the flights offered by Epic Universe’s rides let me imagine soaring alongside Toothless just as Universal Studios Florida’s attractions make me believe I’m battling mummies. While within the park boundaries, there’s no need for sleep or intoxication to enjoy this experience! Nevertheless, given how tempting Celestial Park’s Grand Atlantic Martini appears, I can assure you that my drinking will be moderate and responsible.

This Epic Universe has had quite a journey so far, and now, following a short interlude in New York City, we’re about to see where it’s bound next!
Here are the dates and locations for upcoming events:
* April 11-13: Atlanta, Georgia (Located near Pemberton Place, next to World of Coca-Cola)
* April 23-26: New York, New York (Rockefeller Center will be the venue)
* May 16-18: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (The Rocky Steps are where this event will take place)
* June 13-18: Chicago, Illinois (Pioneer Court will host this event)
To some people, the National Epic Universe Portal Tour could simply be a chance for a photo, but for me it represents so much more. Within the miniature replica, the Chronos operates exactly as it does in real life, serving as a gateway to the enchantment that lies beyond its welcoming entrance, albeit on a diminished scale.
As you gaze at a video screen displaying the exhilarating experiences that lie ahead, it’s just a sneak peek of what you can experience once Epic Universe opens on May 22nd. Whether you’re undecided about visiting the park or eagerly awaiting your turn, I highly recommend visiting the nearest location to you. Think of it as a warm-up for when you confront the actual Chronos in its towering 60-foot stature.
