Valkyrae is advocating for Twitch to revise their Terms of Service, aiming to enhance her live streams and prevent any possible bans in the future.
In the first quarter of 2025, Rachell ‘Valkyrae’ Hofstetter was the third most-viewed female streamer, with VTubers Pekora and Miko leading the way in viewership statistics.
In response to the current bronze medal standing in the 2025 event, Valkyrae expressed some encouraging remarks about simultaneous streaming on Twitch and YouTube, yet highlighted a significant concern she has regarding the particular platform of purple (YouTube).
As per Hofstetter’s explanation, Twitch’s regulations significantly limit the practice of multi-streaming due to a substantial impact on the quality of subsequent video uploads (VODs).
Valkyrae wants Twitch to allow YouTube chat
In a recent post on X, the co-owner of 100 Thieves expressed her preference for displaying chat during her streams to engage with viewers who catch up on her VODs. However, Twitch only permits their own chat to be shown on the screen.
As a gamer streaming on both Twitch and YouTube, I’ve learned that it’s not allowed by Twitch’s Terms of Service to display YouTube chat during my stream. On the other hand, showing Twitch chat is fine according to YouTube’s rules. So, I only have Twitch chat visible on screen.
I make a point to read both chats, but my viewers on YouTube seem to always doubt if I ever check their messages. It would be incredibly helpful if there was a way to combine both chats in OBS so I can keep an eye on all the conversation without having to switch between platforms!
Over the last few months, multi-streaming has been fantastic, but there’s a catch: I prefer displaying chat during live streams for viewers who watch VODs later. However, it goes against Twitch’s terms of service to show YouTube chat, and it’s not against YouTube’s terms to show Twitch chat. Consequently, I can only display Twitch chat on screen. After reading both sets of rules, this is the situation I find myself in.

According to Twitch’s Simulcasting Rules, broadcasters should avoid integrating external services into their streams during a Simulcast. This includes blending chat or any other platform-specific features from multiple sources.
Hofstetter also mentioned her opinion that when it comes to chat interactions, Twitch outshines YouTube, but in terms of overall viewing experience, YouTube takes the lead.
Immediately following this, Valkyrae disclosed that she had devised a method allowing her YouTube multi-stream to display both chats simultaneously. However, viewers collectively opined that it would be ideal if she could also display both chats on Twitch concurrently as well.
Absolutely, I’ve recently ventured into multi-streaming and it’s been fantastic, but due to the VOD chat rule, I don’t get a chance to interact with my YouTube comments. I have a permanently pinned comment on YouTube encouraging viewers to head over to Twitch for discussions, which isn’t ideal. Here’s hoping this rule gets amended soon!

User akaNemsko stated that they’ve begun multi-streaming and enjoy it, but due to the VOD chat rule, they don’t interact with their YouTube chat. Instead, they have a permanently pinned comment on YouTube encouraging viewers to switch to Twitch for interaction, acknowledging this isn’t ideal.
Noko, a Twitch streamer, expressed hope that this tweet could inspire some modifications. He’s eagerly anticipating the moment when multi-stream chats are unified across all platforms.
Valkyrae boasts a wealth of experience across both YouTube and Twitch, spending five years exclusively on YouTube prior to her decision to go back to Twitch and broadcast simultaneously.
The broadcaster explained that YouTube’s emphasis on videos led to her making that particular choice. Furthermore, many modifications she proposed for the streaming aspect of the YouTube (which is owned by Google) didn’t get implemented during the five years she worked there.
