GOG revived another classic, Breath of Fire IV is available on PC

The Breath of Fire series, created by CAPCOM, may not have reached the same fame as RPG giants such as Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, or Pokémon, but it has cultivated a devoted fanbase over time. Notably, Breath of Fire IV stands out among the series for its compelling storytelling and dual protagonist design. Nowadays, it’s often recognized as a hidden gem from the PlayStation 1 era. If you’re a long-term admirer, here’s an exciting piece of news: Breath of Fire IV, previously only available on PlayStation, is now playable on PC via GOG!

Breath of Fire IV returns

25 years since the initial launch of the PlayStation 1, Breath of Fire IV has made a comeback on GOG.com, all thanks to approximately 22,000 dedicated fans who rallied behind it via the GOG Wishlist.

This revised edition is tailored for modern computers, boasting compatibility with Windows 10 and 11, improved DirectX graphics rendering, fresh display features such as Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, advanced gamma correction adjustments, and a redesigned audio system that restores environmental sounds and offers new sound configuration options. It retains both English and Japanese text (with Japanese audio only), honoring the authenticity of its initial launch.

These offerings are generously provided by the GOG Preservation Program. Notably, “Breath of Fire IV” joins an additional seven timeless games that have been brought back to life, aiming to safeguard the legacy of PC gaming.

  1. Ultima I + Ultima II
  2. Ultima IX: Ascension
  3. Worms Armageddon
  4. Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood
  5. Realms of the Haunting
  6. Tex Murphy: Under a Killing Moon
  7. Stonekeep

The GOG Dreamlist is filled with timeless games that should be modernized for today’s computers. If you want to support your favorite game and potentially see it revived, casting a vote is definitely an option. I, personally, am rooting for Persona 2: Innocent Sin to be the next candidate for the Preservation Program.
