Watery Grave Quest: Stealth Kill the Pirate Captain in Oblivion Remastered

In the highly recognized faction of Oblivion Remastered, known as the Dark Brotherhood, there’s a distinctively shadowy adventure awaiting players who enjoy stealthy assassinations. Shortly after becoming part of this secretive group, you’ll be given the mission titled “A Watery Grave”.

In the initial Dark Brotherhood assignment within Oblivion Remastered, players must eliminate a pirate captain named Gaston Tussaud. This mission is called “A Watery Grave”, and unlike other contracts, there are no extra bonuses for fulfilling specific conditions during the kill in this particular quest. This comprehensive guide will walk you through every stage of the quest and explain the prizes you’ll get upon slaying Captain Gaston Tussaud in Oblivion Remastered.

How To Start “A Watery Grave” Quest

To embark on “A Watery Grave”, players of “Oblivion Remastered” should initially become part of the enigmatic Dark Brotherhood and secure entry to their Cheydinhal sanctuary. After successfully passing through the Antiquated Black Door, seek out Vicente Valtieri to accept this inaugural Dark Brotherhood contract in “Oblivion“.

How To Complete “A Watery Grave” & Get The Contract Bonus

Regarding pirates, I’m unsure about your sentiments towards them, but there’s a situation where you must eliminate a captain, on his very own vessel, amidst his loyal crew. Is this something that piques your interest?

In “A Watery Grave,” your mission is to eliminate Gaston Tussaud, a pirate captain stationed at the Imperial City Harbor within the Waterfront District. While there’s flexibility in how you carry out this assassination, players of “Oblivion Remastered” will only meet bonus conditions for completing this Dark Brotherhood Contract if they manage to dispatch the Captain without being spotted by his ship’s crew.

Before departing from the sanctuary to embark on this task, make sure to touch base with your fellow Dark Brotherhood comrades to gather their thoughts and possible insights regarding your current mission.

Step One: Find The Pirate Ship Location

To locate Marie Elena in Oblivion Remastered, players should make their way to the Waterfront District within the Imperial City. Upon arriving via fast-travel to the Waterfront gate and spawning, simply take a left and walk along the path. Continue strolling until you come across a gathering of pirates near their ship at the end of the pier.

According to Vicente Valtieri’s recommendation, there’s a hidden box at the end of the dock, beyond the crowd and the front of the ship. Keep an eye out for it; when you get close enough, a prompt will appear. If you decide to conceal yourself within this box, you’ll be mysteriously transported into the ship’s cargo hold.

As a gamer, I can opt to casually stroll onto the ship’s deck and head straight for the captain’s quarters. However, be warned, the pirates might get hostile if I board the vessel so blatantly. But fret not! If there are any Guards nearby, they’ll instantly clash with the Pirates, creating a clear path for me.

Step Two: Sneak Through The Marie Elena

If you decide to conceal yourself inside the box at the end of the pier, you’ll need to stealthily traverse the ship’s lower decks to get to the captain’s cabin. Slip through the ship’s interior until you spot a ladder. Ascend the ladder to reach the second level. Here, you’ll find two pirates engaged in a chat, blocking your path. Since they won’t move until their conversation ends, wait patiently. Once they return to their duties, quietly slip by them unnoticed.

Since there’s no bonus tied to this first Dark Brotherhood mission in Oblivion Remastered, players have the option to confront the two pirates head-on instead.

Regardless of your path, upon reaching the second tier’s end, you’ll come across a hatch ascending towards the captain’s quarters. Climb the ladder there to discover where the pirate Captain is stationed.

Step Three: How To Kill Captain Gaston Tussaud

Upon gaining access to Captain Tussaud’s cabin, whether by secretly slipping aboard the vessel or casually strolling past the dockside pirates, be aware that the Captain will react hostilely if you aren’t moving stealthily. Feel free to eliminate the Captain in whatever manner suits you best, but for a swift and simple approach, consider employing a Stealthy Ambush.

Once you’ve slain the Captain, make your escape through the back door that opens onto a terrace, and leap into the water. A couple of pirates will knock on the Captain’s cabin door after a short while, then go inside to investigate, so ensure you swiftly depart the ship to steer clear of any conflict.

If you manage to secretly board the ship undetected and skillfully swap a poisoned apple for the Captain’s without him noticing, then subsequently remove all other food items from his quarters, he will eventually consume the tainted fruit unknowingly, leading to his demise. This action won’t trigger any alarms among pirates or guards, but planning and execution must be carefully executed.

“A Watery Grave” Quest Rewards

After completing my first assignment by slaying the Captain, I returned to the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary in Cheydinhal for a chat with Vicente Valtieri. He praised my success on the contract and bestowed upon me the Black Band, an accessory that passively boosts my Light Armor, Security, and offers Magic Resistance when worn.

Additionally, you’ll earn one point towards Infamy, affecting some NPCs’ behavior toward you, and advance to the next stage of the Oblivion Dark Brotherhood questline. Return to Vicente Valtieri for your second assignment: “Accidents Happen”.

In this subsequent phase of the Dark Brotherhood mission, players are tasked with orchestrating a deception that makes an assassination appear as an accident. This involves stealthily maneuvering past an armed sentry undetected and exiting the residence unnoticed.
