It’s been discovered that a secret game based on the Blade Runner universe, named ‘Blade Runner: Time To Live’, has been scrapped.
At Supermassive Games, the team behind titles like Until Dawn, The Quarry, and The Dark Pictures Anthology series, worked on this project. However, Blade Runner: Time To Live was intended to break away from their usual narrative adventure style.
- The project is described as an action-adventure game that would combine a rich, philosophical storyline with dynamic gameplay.
- The gameplay would include combat, stealth, conducting investigations, and shaping interactions with NPCs.
- During the gameplay, we could improve the abilities of our character. Exploring our own memories and using futuristic technology in investigations would also be important.
- Blade Runner: Time To Live was supposed to be a single-player game and was expected to provide about 10-12 hours of fun.
- The release was set to take place in September 2027 on PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5.
The Last Blade Runner
In the year 2065, the story unfolds in New Zurich. You’ll find yourself assuming the role of So-Lange, a Nexus-6 replicant who miraculously continues to function beyond its designed lifespan. In this scenario, you’ll be the last Blade Runner active at that time, and your task is to locate members of a secretive replicant resistance group. The leader of this movement has deceived us in some way, and it’s up to you to bring them to justice.
The project for Blade Runner: Time To Live was initially planned to be in the final stages of prototyping by September 2025, with full-scale production following afterwards. The team mainly comprised developers that had experience working on The Quarry previously.
In the end, we had to scrap the project towards the close of last year. Unfortunately, Insider Gaming couldn’t provide a definitive explanation, but they pointed the finger at Alcon Entertainment, who hold the rights to the Blade Runner franchise, as being responsible.
Initially, it was projected that a total of 45 million dollars would be required to produce this game. Out of this amount, nearly 9 million were earmarked specifically for hiring actors and organizing motion capture sessions. However, it’s important to note that additional expenses will arise because the 45 million does not account for music production, testing, localization, or future Downloadable Content (DLC).
