Nikki Glaser, known for her straightforward humor, shared an incident where she removed a joke from a Comedy Central roast because Caitlyn Jenner expressed her intention to withdraw from the event if the joke was included.
At the Time100 Summit in New York, Glaser mentioned that prior to the telecast, she was refining her material in Los Angeles (which is believed to be the Alec Baldwin roast), and Jenner apparently learned about a joke Glaser had planned regarding Jenner’s involvement in a deadly car accident. (Glaser didn’t share this joke at the summit, but during a 2019 interview on “The Howard Stern Show,” she disclosed some jokes she decided not to use during the roast: “Caitlyn Jenner, what an attractive woman… You were responsible for four deaths in traffic four years ago. [You are] one person who can’t have a period but still has blood on her hands.”)
Glaser expressed concerns about including jokes related to the car accident in her performance and asked Comedy Central if they could inform Jenner beforehand. However, Comedy Central advised against it, worrying that Jenner might withdraw. Regardless, Jenner learned about the joke prior to the roast. According to Glaser, when Jenner heard about such a joke, she stated that she didn’t want to participate in the event anymore. Upon hearing this, Glaser decided to remove the joke. She simply needed Jenner to express her disapproval directly.
Glaser expressed her readiness to eliminate jokes that might cause discomfort to the subjects, a practice inspired by advice given to her by the previous Oscar host, Jimmy Kimmel. His advice was simple: “If you’re uncertain about a joke and how it will be received, just ask them.
On another occasion, Glaser didn’t just speak those words; she embodied them. Before delivering her Golden Globes monologue in January, she communicated a joking idea to Benny Blanco: “Selena Gomez is present for ‘Emilia Pérez’ and ‘Only Murders.’ And she’s here tonight with her new fiancé, Benny Blanco. And Benny Blanco is here because of the genie who granted him that wish.
Glaser revealed at the Time100 Summit that he obtained Blanco’s contact number and said something like, ‘Hi, even though we haven’t met, I’m organizing an event and I’ve heard you might attend. Could I announce that you’ll be there because a genie granted you a wish?’ Blanco responded with laughter, saying he would check with Selena first. Later, he informed Glaser that Selena found the idea amusing.
Glaser is set to host next year’s Golden Globes on Jan. 11, 2026.
