As a gamer, I’m super excited about the preorders for Nintendo Switch 2 going live in some regions, only to quickly sell out! However, Nintendo is cautioning us all to be on guard against scammers trying to trick eager consumers like me into handing over our personal data. In Japan, they’re even holding lotteries for a chance to preorder the new console, aiming to thwart scalpers and chaos online. But it seems some less-than-honest individuals are finding ways to exploit this situation too.
Some customers were sent emails stating they could buy the Switch 2 next, leading them to a link presumably not the official Nintendo Store.
Nintendo issued a warning stating that they’ve detected fraudulent emails claiming to be about the results of the ‘Nintendo Switch 2’ lottery sale from the My Nintendo Store. They clarified that any emails with links for purchase procedures are fake, as there has been a change in the processing period and no such links were sent by their company. Users are advised to exercise caution.
Nintendo America is arranging a somewhat stricter registration procedure for those who qualify to register their Nintendo accounts with the hope of pre-ordering the Switch 2 on the official Nintendo store. Selected individuals will receive a purchase invitation in May, but some may not get an invitation until after June 5th, the launch date. Be cautious about phishing attempts related to the Japanese Switch 2 raffle, as they have employed subtle tricks like minor typos or URLs linking to other regions. Ensure that any received emails are genuinely from Nintendo before responding.
