Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Next Expansion Is Sun And Moon, Half-Year Anniversary Event Announced

The upcoming addition for the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket will transport players to the Alola region from Pokemon Sun and Moon, introducing the Celestial Guardians collection.

Over 200 fresh cards will be introduced in the collection for the free-to-play mobile game, featuring EX variants of Sogaleo and Lunala, the mascots from Sun and Moon’s Legendary Pokemon. Additionally, the starters from Sun and Moon – Rowlet (grass owl), Litten (fire cat), and Popplio (water seal) – will also be included in the set.

Following the theme of its Alola region, Celestial Guardians will introduce unique variations of cards such as Meowth, Raichu, Vulpix, and Marowak for collectors. The deck will also include new Trainer cards like Rare Candy and the Torom Dex, along with Supporter cards featuring Sun and Moon’s Trial Captains – Ilima, Lana, Kiawe, Acerola, Mallow, Sophocles, and Lillie.

Celestial Guardians will launch on April 29 at 11 PM PT / April 30 at 2 AM ET.

Apart from the updates in Pokemon TCG Pocket, there’s more to look forward to! A half-year anniversary event is about to start simultaneously, allowing players to obtain new promo cards by engaging in solo battles. These battles feature a full-art version of Rayquaza EX as a reward. To celebrate the six-month milestone, additional items such as coins and playmats will also be introduced.

For quite some time now, there’s been an abundance of fresh content available on the widely played mobile adaptation of the Pokemon card game. As a matter of fact, The Pokemon Company recently revealed that this particular version had surpassed 100 million downloads in February. Just recently, they introduced their Shining Revelry expansion, marking the debut of Shiny Pokemon within the game for the very first time.

Starting this fall, Creatures Inc. and DeNA, the developers behind Pokemon TCG Pocket, plan to revamp the disliked trading system that was recently introduced. Instead of using Trade tokens, players will now utilize Shinedust (already used to enhance card visuals) for trades. The developers aim to boost the amount of Shinedust available to players to accommodate its new function and also intend to upgrade the game’s trading mechanics to facilitate easier sharing of desired trade cards.
